John Stossel Leaving ABC For Fox
TV Newser ^ | September 10, 2009 | Chris Ariens

Posted on 09/10/2009 10:33:24 AM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia

First on TVNewser: John Stossel, the longtime ABC News correspondent and co-anchor of "20/20," is leaving ABC to join Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. TVNewser has learned Stossel will host a weekly, one-hour program for the 2-year-old business channel. He's expected to signed a multi-year deal with Fox which will include regular appearances on Fox News Channel during daytime and primetime. He'll also host four, hour-long specials on Fox News, much like the business/consumer specials he'd hosted for years on ABC.

Stossel, a libertarian, has been appearing on Fox News for years as a guest on shows including "The O'Reilly Factor," "Hannity & Colmes" and "The Big Story."

Stossel joined "20/20" in 1981 and was upped to co-anchor in 2003. TVNewser has learned there was a window in Stossel's ABC contract which allowed him to jump to Fox.

Stossel's departure from ABC means there will soon be another anchor vacancy at the network. Last week, Charlie Gibson announced his retirement paving the way for Diane Sawyer to take over on "World News" beginning in January. "20/20's" other co-anchor Elizabeth Vargas, is one of the top names being mentioned for the GMA slot.

The other choice is that they go away completely.

Maybe ABC wasn’t happy with the show that Stossel did on Glen Beck. Maybe ABC thought that he wasn’t hard enough on Beck.

Do people really understand what Libertarianism really is? Its Liberalism for people who will not admit they are liberals.

What I understand is that one of the richest Libertarians in the world, a guy by the name of Rupert Murdoch, created the FOX News Network.

And without that Libertarian, there would be no FOX News.

Conservatives are damned lucky that Libertarians are liberal-minded. They're so liberal-minded that they're willing to give conservatism a voice and a chance.

It's the conservative-minded that think they already have all the answers. There are plenty on the left and right like that.

Yet you claim to know so much about Fox and all it’s ills. Give it a break already.

I would have traded O’Blowhard for Stossel and thrown in Shep Smith just to sweeten the pot. It's a win, win, win.

It’s less and less the case. The left can call Fox anything it wants, but if that’s where the news is, eventually people are going to go there.

ACORN as financier and business consultant to prostitution rings? Not going to find that on ABC.

Ratings talk and BS walks anyway. I doubt they’ll fill Stossel’s vacancy, because frankly he was an investigative journalist in an organization that doesn’t do that any more.

Murdoch is not even close to a libertarian.

Yet another gig for Ellen DeGeneres I'm sure.

CNN lost Beck and his ratings.

ABC lost Stossel and his ratings.

Man, the MSM should be put on suicide watch. It is like they are actively trying to tank their own ratings. Maybe there is a good conspiracy theory for this. Lets see...

MSM destroys itself, except for FOX. Obama says “FOX is a monopoly and needs government competition.”

Obama announces USBC 1 and USBC 2, the US equivalents of the BBC. FCC’s Diverstiy Czar shuts down FOX.

Welcome to 1984.

Nah, I don’t believe it myself. I just needed some wild, unbelievable explanation for why the MSM is committing suicide. This makes me very happy. May they RIP.

They can send Shep Smith to MSLSD where he belongs while they’re at it.

A good career move for Stossel. He couldn’t do the kind of stories he wanted to for ABC.

I wonder if ABC tried to coax him to stay? Gibson is leaving, after all.

John Stossel, news detective; Thomas Magnum/Tom Selleck Hawaii 6.0.

Stossel is a perfect fit for The-Emperor-Is-Naked Network.

An unerring ear for bogosity.

O’Reilly is only motivated by his love of all things O’Reilly. I almost choked on my cereal during his replay this morning. John Bastardi, a very informed meteorologist, was debunking global warning. Not a peep out of O’Reilly about O’Reilly’s warm embrace of global warming pseudoscience. I emailed O’Reilly about this; I wonder if he’ll get back to me.

O'Reilly is every bit the sellout he rails against in many areas, including "Global Warming", as you mention.

Bill is a perfect object lesson in the old story of success going to one's head and ruining them.

His kissing up to Axelrod last night, letting him take shots at Rove and Palin rather than answer questions was pretty much standard fare for what to expect from him anymore.

He acts like his access to hardliner lefties is a credit to his self-touted "no spin" fairness, when actually its merely a matter that they know he provides them a forum to spout their political correctness and get the stamp of approval of someone thought of as hardliner right.

He's become just another tool of the Left.

His usefulness, short of a personal humbling, is largely over.
