Joe Wilson's 15 minutes of infamy notwithstanding, Democrats were pretty rough on George W. Bush during a joint sessions a few years back.
Two examples:
In 2004, Democrats delivered a “Chorus Of Boos” during Bush's Bush’s State Of The Union when he called for renewal of the Patriot Act., according to the Washington Times.
In 2005, Dems howled, hissed and shouted "No!" when Bush pushed for Social Security reform in the SOU: "Foreshadowing the contentiousness of the coming debate, Democrats broke decorum and booed twice," according to the National Journal.
At the time, CNN's Bill Schneider remarked, “It was unusual. I had never heard it at least at that level before. The Democrats clearly were booing, heckling, saying no when the president talked about the crisis in Social Security."
Moreover, Obama's claim that illegal immigrants won't be covered -- which sparked Wilson's outburst -- while technically accurate, doesn't quite tell the entire story. Some of the bills being considered in the House and Senate contain provisions locking in local statutes that prevent providers from inquiring about immigration status prior to treatment. And illegals are treated, and are bound to be treated, in ERs, covered by local, state and federal uninsured pools.
So why the outcry over Wilson?

He apologized for his outburst, not for the content. He apologized and got his point across-A win/win!
Obama had JUST called Republican critics “liars” in his speech.
Barack went before Congress so he could get Democrat applause on the key lines. That opened him up to counter response.
The Democrats were SILENT when a Code Pinko heckled John McCain at the GOP Convention in 2008 DURING his Presidential nomination acceptance speech.
Saying “You Lie” is personal, whether you want to consider it an ‘attack’ or not. It’s from saying “that’s not true”
Calling a liar a liar is gutsy, but necessary to maintain control of the agenda.
We know taking anything from government at face value is ceding complete ignorance of the consequences.
see tagline.
It’s *different* from saying “That’s’s not true”
Yes, they should have been filming me for how many times I yelled at the TV, “you are a @!%^ing LIAR!!”.
If I say that Mohammad Atta was not part of the 9/11 attacks, you could call me a liar without it being a “personal attack”.....BECAUSE IT IS A LIE!
Same with Obama and his claims.
It’s personal whenever the the word “you” is inserted
Did he ever apologize?
I disagree — don’t any of you get that this wasn’t polical or about manners — it was a GESTURE that was inspired from a truly spiritual source, to wake the sleepwalkers from their trance.
*********************************************
If he had said, Thats not true it would have been more akin to the treatment Bush got.
But saying You Lie is a direct personal attack - a bit different.
Even though he is the Liar-in Chief
I disagree.
A lie is a lie.
I do not care one whit if I offend the sensibilities of a liar, as they have no character.
Nonsense.
I left my thoughts on the Politico site re this article and among the things I said was the following:
Would the outcry from the loony Left be any different id Wilson had stood and shouted, instead of “Liar”, the word “Prevaricator”?
I think not.
“it was a GESTURE that was inspired from a truly spiritual source, to wake the sleepwalkers from their trance.”
That’s fine. I’m just pointing out that it was different from booing or saying ‘No’ as was done to Bush.
Why do people always apologize when they speak they’re mind. Geeshh!!!!!
He should’ve done as the heckler at Bob Dylan’s first British concert with electric guitar did and called him “Judas”. America is being sold out.
Maybe they should be called the “Hypocratic party”
I notice in this article that the Democrats booed President Bush over the Patriot Act renewal. And have they repealed the Patriot Act yet?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
