Talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres has been named as the fourth "American Idol" judge.
FOX announced this evening that Ellen will be joining Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson on the "American Idol" judging panel in the wake of Paula Abdul's departure. She will join the panel after the initial auditions, so I'm hoping that means she is there for Hollywood Week.
DeGeneres had this to say: "I'm thrilled to be the new judge on American Idol. I've watched since the beginning, and I've always been a huge fan. So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I'll save from not having to text in my vote."
"I could not be more excited to have Ellen join the "American Idol" family," said creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. "Ellen has been a fan of the show for many years, and her love of music and understanding of the American public will bring a unique human touch to our judging panel. I can't wait for this next season to begin."
From the FOX press release: "A beloved television icon and entertainment pioneer, DeGeneres' distinctive comic voice has resonated with audiences from her first stand-up comedy appearances through her work today on television, in film and in the literary world. DeGeneres has made a home for herself in the daytime arena with her hit syndicated talk show, 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show.' The show, now entering its seventh season, won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host four years in a row and has earned a total of 29 Daytime Emmy Awards."

I would not say "lesbian" if I had a mouthful.
Ellen DeGeneres is very talented in terms of being able to ad lib funny comments on whatever’s happening around her. I don’t like it when she gets preachy, but most of the time she’s just popping off with witty comments about this or that, so I think she’s probably a good choice to join the panel of judges.
no more idol for me, I can’t stand that dike.
Cool. Another reason not to watch this drek.
I think you just hit on the reason for this decision.
Sickness. Not good.
So does Don Imus. Is he qualified to be a judge?

Let me clarify that I think she’s a good choice in terms of entertainment value, but I have no idea if she’ll be able to do a good job in judging the contestants. Ideally, a judge on the panel should be entertaining AND a good musical judge.
There has never even been a guest judge before this upcoming season that wasn't part of the music business. The whole of the judges is to advise the contestants and analysis their performances for the viewers. That makes Degenerate completely unqualified for the job.
Paula is always a “train wreck” waiting to happen. I don’t watch every episode of Idol but it was always funny watching them poke fun at her on “The soup” on E! channel Friday nights.
You people do realize she’s hosted some Idol events before and just last year they had an openly gay contestant finish second. He wasn’t the first either. Just saying, if anyone was going to boycott because the show has an openly gay host I wonder why you watched when it had gay contestants?
How does that qualify her to judge and give advice to contestants?
Why not, Perez Hilton was put in charge of the beauty pageant.
Comic my A$$
I didn’t watch Idol before. . .I definitely won’t be relenting on that now.
Once again I am glad I have never watched this show.
Good person? Comic genius? LOL
Even though I have zero interest in pop music I got hooked couple years ago. Enjoyed seeing talented young people pursuing their dreams. I will never watch again. NEVER. I find her totally repugnant. She is only going to be there to promote homosexuality.
Oh but what a target-rich environment for a vagitarian!
I have e-mailed Fox, stating that I would never watch that show as long as Ellen is associated with it. I also added that whomever hired Ellen should be fired as they do not have a clue. If Fox bothers to respond with something other than a blah-blah-blah form letter, I’ll post it.
