What's 16-17 million uninsured among 300 million Americans?
Apparently not much to President Barack Obama, who slipped a not-so-subtle change to a statistic he had cited previously different during his Sept. 9 address to a joint session of Congress. The president pointed out there are "more than 30 million American citizens" who are having difficulty obtaining health insurance (emphasis added).
"We are the only advanced democracy on Earth - the only wealthy nation - that allows such hardships for millions of its people," Obama said. "There are now more than 30 million American citizens who cannot get coverage. In just a two year period, one in every three Americans goes without health care coverage at some point. And every day, 14,000 Americans lose their coverage. In other words, it can happen to anyone."

except for being somewhat less than 12 million, if even that.
I believe they want to change the numbers at the congressional budget office to lower the projected cost.
If the number of uninsured is lowered, then the expected costs will be lower.
Its not a random change or a move toward accuracy. Nothing they do is random or accurate.
When I was in college we used to play a card game called Bulls*it. This speech reminded me of that game.
I am surprised 0bama didn’t claim that the number dropped to 30 million because the 16-17 million other people died from lack of health care.
So what he is saying is that 14,000 Americans are losing their jobs, thus their insurance, every day? Wow he sure turned the recovery around didn’t he!
That says it all right there. What else is so clear in its dishonesty and distortion. We are not a democracy first, but even if you let that become a linguistic slip, the second part is more telling.
Allow. As if the government was tasked with anything other than a few internecine roles to keep the peace and to defend our sovereignty.
Allow. A free people are not "allowed" anything; the enslaved might be if their taskmasters are pleased. Free people make their own choices and leave little in the way of personal choices to the government, much less a democracy of thieves.
Should be the other way around.
16 to 17 million uninsured and 30+ million illegals.
population
UK 61 million
CA 34 million
US 304 million
US 40 or 30 or 17 ????? (un-insured, but NOT without medical available... heck, illegals get it!)
the other 17 million “uninsured” are not citizens- slight distinction
See. Obama just insured 17 M americans just by talking about it. He is the liberal messiah!
See? Just the fact that Obama is talking about it has cut the number of uninsured by a third. </sarcasm>
That way he could say later in the speech (which is why Wilson called him a liar) that they were not covering illegals. Guess they decided this is their new strategy in the bull session the other day with Pelosi and Reid.
Probably they are looking to legalize the illegals next year and that's why they took them out.
It’s hard to say how the 30 million figure was reached.
Careful analysis of this annual Census survey has shown that of the people counted as uninsured:
1. Between 8.7-20.2% already are covered by Medicaid, but fail to report that coverage, hence “appear” uninsured.
2. An ADDITIONAL 7.8-10.9% are eligible for Medicaid or SCHIP but simply haven’t bothered to apply for benefits. If these individuals ever got sick, their bills would be retroactively covered by public insurance.
3. 19.1%-22.3% are non-citizens, of which about half are “illegals” (or “undocumented” if you prefer to be politically correct about it)
4. 21.1-23.1% have incomes above 300% of poverty.
Thus, if groups 1 & 2 don’t need help (16.5-31.1%) and half of group 3 don’t deserve help (or at least Obama claims not to be trying to help them through health reform), that’s grounds for reducing the widely reported 46 million figure by anywhere from 26.0% to 42.3%. Obama reduced it by 34.8%. Maybe he just split the difference, being the terrific political consensus-builder that he is...
Of course, that ignores group #4. Since all the plans in front of Congress include no subsidies for those with incomes at 400% or more of poverty, a sizable chunk of group #4 also doesn’t deserve help. In short, even the reduced number used by Obama considerably exaggerates the size of the problem he is addressing.
