US President Barack Obama drew heavily on his oratory skills in delivering his high-stakes pitch for healthcare reform in Washington. Taking regular jabs at critics and the insurance industry, President Obama today explained his $US900 billion proposal to revamp America's $US2.5 trillion health care system, a bold set of changes first proposed by Theodore Roosevelt in 1912.
The healthcare debate provoked outrage in town halls across the US last month and has driven Mr Obama's approval rating down five points to 50 percent since July, according to an Associated Press-GfK out late yesterday.
His speech aimed to revive his flagging push for change and promise that government-backed insurance options would not mean higher taxes.
Mr Obama pointedly attacked critics whom he accused of spreading misinformation about his proposals.
"The time for bickering is over. The time for games has passed. Now is the season for action," Mr Obama said to rousing applause during a joint sitting of Congress.
Since Ted Roosevelt, five presidents including Harry Truman and Richard Nixon have tried to introduce low-cost insurance to the US, where 46 million are cannot afford coverage.
"I am not the first president to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last," Mr Obama said.

I missed the entire speech, while working. Looks like I didn’t miss much. First step - remove Reid and Pelosi from ANYTHING Government related. Those two stooges couldn’t even run a local burger joint. Second, have oBama and his other stooges re-write the entire bill and remove both Government involvement and move towards drastic tort reform; thereby removing ludicrous medical malpractice payments and payouts.........
"Ted Roosevelt"? Throw another kookaburra on the barbie, mate.
Thanks! The only thing I don't see is the funeral home/crematorium.

“a bold set of changes first proposed by Theodore Roosevelt in 1912”
First of all, I doubt Obama’s plan has much to do with what T.R. did or did not propose.
Second, I wouldn’t be surprised if Teddy proposed some sort of boondoggle, but I hardly think he was the first to do so. Maybe the first chief executive. Except he wasn’t president in 1912, just another lame duck rabble-rouser.
(now what do I do?)
