Harry Reids power is the stuff of legend in Nevada. But as the Senate majority leader prepares for his 2010 reelection run, voters back home are beginning to ask whats in it for them.
Nevadas unemployment rate is 12.7 percent, 3 percentage points higher than the national average. Las Vegas has the highest foreclosure rate of any big city in the country. And economic forecasters are sounding the alarm about an impending crash in the states commercial real estate market.
Its all taking a toll on Reid. While Reid may be at the peak of his power in Washington, a Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll out earlier this month showed him trailing two potential GOP challengers. And Reids in-state approval rating stands at just 36 percent statistically indistinguishable from the 35 percent approval rating of his adulterous Republican colleague, Sen. John Ensign.
Reid dismisses the polling, complaining that reporters run to it like its sugar coming from some place. But he admits hes not boasting about his own private polls which Democratic sources say show him with just single-digit leads over his likely GOP challengers and his campaign is looking like the work of a man running to save his career.
Reids advisers say they are plotting the most ambitious and aggressive campaign Nevada has ever seen, an effort centered on an ad campaign that one Democratic source said will eat up a staggering 75 percent of the $20 million to $25 million Reid is expected to spend on his reelection.
I think he needs to reintroduce himself to Nevadans, said Sig Rogich, a Republican consultant who is the senators longtime friend and is advising his campaign.

Nuke Reid like Daschle.
Nothing finer.
A REPUBLICAN CONSULTANT???? WOW....maybe he WILL lose after all!!
This is the only paragraph that needs to be read.
He needs to re-introduce himself? Nevadans don’t know who he is?
No doubt the kind of consultant the RNC holds in highest esteem.
Many, many new people have moved to the state in the past six years, and most are non-political.
Why do you feel they are nonpolitical? Living here I see just the opposite.
Reid must win only the most populated one: Clark County.
That is what elected him last time.....the one where all the whore houses are located.
I lived in Nevada for a while (not Las Vegas), and never knew anyone who was political. That was some time ago, so maybe the new residents are different.
If Reid needs a Republican, why does NV need Reid?
All they have to do is vote. :^(
The Difference is that many lost their homes and have moved to other places.
Look for one near you.

Rogich currently serves as National Finance Co-Chairman for The Republican Governors’ Association and has served in the same capacity in Nevada for President George W. Bush. He was a Bush Pioneer, and an early supporter of John McCain in the 2008 presidential contest.
Sig Rogich is a supporter of homosexual marriage, is for the legalization of marijuana, and is on the record as saying madrasas are “terrorist training camps”.
Tark the Shark’s Son will be next US Senator from Nevada.
Actually, the whore houses are, ironically, in the Republican counties. Brothels have been illegal in Clark County for some time.
Six years? Try lots of new people have been moving to Nevada for the past SIXTY years!
Most of the new residents of NV are Californians running from the Socialists there. Maybe they have had enough ? Perhaps they will vote against more Socialism in NV & the rest of America. And vote the Basta*d out ?
