Why are Jon Henke and I firing into our own ranks on the birther nonsense? Wouldn't it be better to take on Democrats?
Well, two answers to this. First, the WND folks are not, in any sense of the word, my people. I supported Obama, remember?
Second of all, it's not, like, true. It's not even reasonable to believe that it might be true. It is crazy nonsense. Even if everything that the truthers say were factually correct, Barack Obama was the son of an American mother, which means he is a natural born American citizen. This is a waste of time and energy that could be put to better use, like learning to play the banjo.

So he’s saying even if he was born in Kenya, he is still a natrual born citizen because his mom was a citizen (but not his dad)?
I think even most libtards would have a hard time explaining why someone under those circumstances would meet the natural born citizen test.
Megan McArdle’s opinions are quite often right on target (even though she admittedly voted for Obama), but IMHO this is one area where she is improperly dismissing things out of hand without having looked deeply enough into the matter...

That sentence stuck out to me too. So, the question is “Do both parents have to be US Citizens, for the offspring to be considered a US Citizen?”. Following the Vietnam War, there were thousands of children born, fathered by US troops - are these children US citizens? I honestly do not know.

Consider that millions of anchor babies are born to illegals but the babies are US citizens by virtue of having been born here in USA at OUR expense
children born to foreign mothers in foreign countries can be declared citizens by their military fathers through a process. They’d then have dual citizenship until age 21.

If true, then Obama is a US citizen by virtue of his mother, no matter when, or where he was born. Am I in error?

This is the basic untruth that Team Obama is trying to finesse past the American Public, a good number of whom can apparently no longer read.
It is a pretty safe legal bet that a "Natural Born Citizen," needs to be the child of two citizens.

Place of birth actually has nothing to do with being a "Natural Born Citizen."
If he were born in Hawaii, he would be a "NATIVE born citizen." If he were born in Kenya, he could reasonably claim US citizenship as the child of Stanley Dunham. But, BUT either way, he could still not claim to be a "NATURAL Born Citizen," as required by the Constitution.
Team Obama is surviving on confusion and obfuscation. Don't play. You want to play? ... Petition your state representatives to write a law requiring establishment of eligibility for electoral votes and state ballots. That's the way to stop this guy..

yes IF Stanley Ann met the requirments, as has been posted above if she had lived in the USA for a certain # of years, 5 of which had to be after the citizen parent had reached age 14. She did not meet that requirement.

The founders DID NOT want someone born with mixed parents becoming President to avoid confusing loyalties. If Obama wanted to, he could prefer his fathers loyalties more than his mothers and attempt to change America into England, or even Kenya.
What we are saying by accepting Obama because he may have been born in Hawaii is, every "anchor" baby born here would be eligible for President even though they fly a Mexican flag and never learned English. Being a citizen is DIFFERENT than being "Natural Born". It is a special term invented for Presidential qualification only. There were many discussions in the founders meetings because, how could they trust someone that had 2 British parents with a child born here, or an American and Brit as parents born here? They had to in the beginning because so few were REAL patriots, but after a short term, the meaning was clear that they expected that BOTH parents would be American born and the child.
So even if Obama was born in Hawaii, The courts should decide if he fits the original intent of the Constitution. After that, then we need to decide, in court, if changing your citizenship to Indonesian and your name disqualifies you.( dual citizenship doesn't work) We don't even have the papers to prove he applied for American citizenship AFTER his Indonesian citizenship. ( which most legal authorities say would disqualify him just like Ahnold is a citizen, but NOT natural born.)
One more, and there are several more, What if he never legally changed his name to Obama? We have a president named Barry Soetoro holding office under a false name. The ballots were marked in error because there is no Barack Obama. How did he get to Pakistan during a time the US didn't give passports there? There is a basket of questions that are not being answered and he is spending millions trying to hide.
He may very well have been born in Hawaii, but that has NOTHING to do with his qualification to run for President. Question:, Can a Samoan or a Puerto Rican become President? They vote and can become a Congressman.
Actually his premiss is wrong, Obama’s Mother under the Constitution wasn’t old enough to pass on her natural born status.
