Political momentum appeared to swing sharply against the public health insurance option prized by liberals Tuesday, on the eve of President Barack Obamas address to a joint session of Congress.
Democratic leaders in the House and Senate on Tuesday signaled they are increasingly willing to pass healthcare reform without a public insurance option, even while Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) again insisted it must be included in a House healthcare bill.
Following a White House meeting with the president and Vice President Joe Biden, Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) gave few clues on what Obama would say.
But a Democratic leadership aide who sat in on an administration briefing Tuesday said that while Obama will offer support Wednesday for a public option, the president will not insist on it.
Hes going to say its the best tool for reducing costs, the aide said. I think hes going to be a bit noncommittal.

Ping.
We got some freepers here that keep on posting that Obama can still get anything he wants. Pelosi speaks and they quiver. Remember that congress has to pass a single bill, both houses,
Yup. This morning has definitely not been FR's proudest moment, overall.
The Marxist Onada’s speech this evening should be interesting. But above all every sentence must be parsed in such detail that however innocuous it may sound, it is made to sound ominous. Onada’s on defense and he must be kept there.
Politically, a lot of Blue Dogs and other Rats don’t even want to vote on a bill unless the Senate goes first. They know it will be political suicide.
Almost half of the 52 Blue Dogs have come out now against rationed Deathcare even before Obama’s speech to them today.
I hate when that happens.
May the public option drown in all these votes and voices of disagreement.
The advertisements on Fox are great right now!
(Unfortunately, none seem to be from the RNC.)
When is the speech?
and
“Tomorrow evening President Obama is giving a speech on Health Care. Are you aware of this?” YES.” Will you be listening to this speech?”
NO! was my response. “Thank you.” end of call.
Nobody trusts Obama — that’s the message.
The Dems have split into so many different camps it’s hard to keep them straight.
Isn’t it time to blame Bush again?
That's only on days ending in the letter "y," I think. ;)
A sop to Obama's lefty pals......he's got big problems with them after he threw Van Jones under the bus.
Con artist pols will try to dupe the public-----(1) Pelosi is gaga over the bill's "trigger" that would invoke the public option; (2) the "Co-op" idea IS a public option since the gov't will run it.
Perhaps you're right. But some of us "quiver-ers" are of the opinion that the jOker is a power-hungry bastard who doesn't care about rules or procedures or decorum or tradition. Or the Constitution. Or his Oath of Office.
He wants to control people and he'll lie, cheat & steal to get what he wants.
Personally, I would like to see him humiliated over this. But my cynical side says that democRATs are hideous political creatures who are utterly, completely corrupted. Why else would they forego their own rules and pass DeathCare by reconciliation?
I expect the worst to happen, but hope that it won't.
Obama will support a government option not run by the government.
Sounds just like the dems! Talking out of both sides of their mouths at the same time.
I'm quite certain I am, thank you. ;) Actual credit for the line you've quoted, however, rightfully belongs to FReeper "sickoflibs."

more bad news for Obummer
Obama?? He will sign anything that reaches his desk. Anything! But something has to reach is desk first. It is his best interest to get a bipartison bill if he can to become popular again. But how can he get one with liberal house democrats?
To believe he can just make it happen is to believe he has those superhuman powers that liberal democrats thought he had, till recently. Libs on MSNBC have been calling on him to speak to the people about the republican lies and the bill to turn things around by motivating last years voters. Good luck, Remember, the honeymoon is over.
Obama is not up for election in 2010 as congressional democrats are.
