PHILADELPHIA — On the very first day of the school year, 12-year-old Mileena Rodriguez was reminded by President Barack Obama himself that hard work can take you places.Mileena listened to Obama's plea to study hard and stay in school Tuesday, watching along with several of her classmates at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School and students across the country. For all the hubbub among adults over the back-to-school speech, many youngsters took the president's message to heart.
"He said that we're the future, and he's right," said Mileena, who wants to be a forensic scientist. "That's a president telling you, `I care about you getting your education.' Just imagine what kids like us can do if we actually listen."
Schoolchildren from coast to coast watched on classroom TVs and computer screens. Others did not hear the message at all, either because their parents pulled from them from class or their schools refused to carry the speech over complaints from conservative groups and others that it smacked of political indoctrination.
In his speech, which aired on C-SPAN and the White House Web site, Obama used examples from his own life to urge students to study hard. He told them to stop chasing dreams of being athletes or reality TV stars.

Indoctrination on a national scale. Adolf Hitler did the same thing. Now BHO is repeating it in America.
How would Obama know about hard work?
That's right little chickypoo. What he didn't tell you is that you're the "future" who will be paying back all the money he's spending right now! Forensic scientist is cool but you're also going to need a couple more jobs to pay off Obama's debt.
Where is the BARF alert?
Instead of the speech he should of just gave them the bill. That would have inspired them.
The principal of the elementary school where I teach sent out an email at about 7:30 this morning saying that our campus would not be watching the speech. She asked that teachers who wanted to use the speech in the future check with her first. I don’t know if my entire district refused to air the speech or if it were a campus-by-campus decision, but I was incredibly grateful that Obarfa had one less opportunity to insinuate himself into the lives of my students.
Did he tell the kiddies how to score a sweet deal on an expensive house in Chicago? Or how to get his wife a no-sweat job with great pay? Now that is how to be successful Obama-style!
I heard part of his speech, and it was one giant nagging. Kids probably thought their moms wrote it. What a colossal waste of school time, and I think most school time is wasted. It was Dale Carnegie minus the enthusiasm.
The speech was innocuous, and reinforced what teachers tell their students anyway.
Protesting or obstructing this speech plays right into 0's hands. It's a stupid and ultra-partisan overreaction.
This “kid” is an obvious media invention. I have 30 years in public education and graduate study in childhood language acquisition. Elementary school children don’t speak like this. They can memorize and parrot this kind of grammar and syntax but this was no spontaneous utterance. Some adult put this BS into the kid’s mouth, bet a million.
What the Defenders of Obama at any Cost won't talk about is that, unlike 0bama, Reagan and GHWB did not:
1) Take up actual lesson time at schools to force their agenda on a captive audience (or so 0bama clearly hoped).
2) They did not attempt to preempt additional time intended for education to propose lesson plans to students on how to help their administrations.
3) They did not play videos of actors pledging allegiance to 0bama personally or ask children to harass their parents to promote 0bama's personal agenda.
Democrats have always been and are still solidly in the forefront of promoting fascist tendencies in the US. This is their first (and hopefully last allowed) move toward creating our very own version of Hitler Youth or Young Communists.
“”He said that we’re the future, and he’s right,” said Mileena, who wants to be a forensic scientist.”
I doubt if this 12 year old, or most any 12 year old, has the slightest idea what a forensic scientist is/does unless one of her parents is a forensic scientist. This is a set-up story, typical of the MSM. Most 12 year olds are in the 7th grade.
Unfortunately for you, 0bama’s attempt at indoctrination here shouldn’t have even been allowed any public school time at all. If you are unable to see how the TOTUS using a government institution to promote partisan propaganda, however padded, barring a national emergency, is inappropriate if not actually illegal, then you ought not to be posting in a forum that adults frequent.
The Address was at lunch break here (central time zone). I asked my high school daughters if they went to watch it - the reply: “Are you kidding?? I wasn’t going to waste my lunch break!” “Nobody cared about what he had to say.”
There was a definite lack of interest in this school district. Sometimes kids are more savvy than you think.
“The speech was innocuous, and reinforced what teachers tell their students anyway.”
So it was a waste of everyone’s time and money. The Messiah trying to take the place of teachers and parents in the kid’s life. After all, who has more influence in a kid’s life, teacher, parent or some abstract being in some abstract place? Nanny State in grand display!
