Clinton to Obama: Forget About the GOP
CNN ^ | 09/08/09

As President Obama gets set to address a joint session of Congress on the issue of health care reform Wednesday night, former President Clinton says it's time to forget about the Republican Party's role in the process entirely.

"The president's doing the right thing. It is both morally and politically right," Clinton told Esquire magazine in an interview published online Tuesday. "I wouldn't even worry about the Republicans. I'd worry about executing."

Former President Bill Clinton thinks Barack Obama may be on the verge of doing what his administration never could: passing comprehensive health care reform.

Though it increasingly appears the White House will win few if any Republican votes on a final health care bill, some members of the GOP say they remain open to supporting a potential version of the legislation, including Arizona Sen. John McCain.

"I look forward to what the specific proposals are," the former Obama rival said last week. "I think the disappointment a lot of Americans display is that we are not working together more."

Still, Clinton said Obama's chief worry should be ensuring the entire Senate Democratic caucus (59 members with the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy) is in support of the reform legislation, including Democrats from more conservative states, like Kay Hagan of North Carolina and Mary Landrieu of Louisiana.

"This electorate has suffered…and what they don't know is whether our guys are going to stand and deliver. And sooner or later you've got to stand and deliver," said Clinton.

The former president also compared Obama's initial months in office to his own perilous beginning, but predicted the current commander in chief would succeed where he had failed.

Looks like Clinton wants to keep the distinction of being the only Democratic president re-elected to a second term all to himself. Guess he must be trying to get back at Obama for his take-down of Hillary by giving Obama advice that will make him a one-termer. Bubba must also want to share with Obama the legacy of causing his party to lose control of Congress in his first mid-term. Bite Obama bite! Take the bait! Then the GOP will sweep back into power in 2010 on the promise to reverse government healthcare!

Welcome to FR.

I sure dont miss Bush, regardless of how bad Obama is (Obama is worse of course).

At any rate, good article, and I agree, I hope Zero takes the bait.

If Barry follows Bubba’s recommendation and dumps the Republicans, moderates, independents, and blue dogs, Barry might as well fold his tent and dismiss the Czars and other court jesters of the State-Controlled Media. He’s cooked his own goose. But then, maybe that is what Bubba wants.

The President forgetting about 50% of the American people? If he does that, he will surely be a one term President. I hope he does just that. I can’t imagine what he will do in a second term where he has nothing to loose.

That's what I'm thinking. Clinton loathes Obama. Remember the recent campaign? He's thinking that if the Dems pass this monstrosity without help from the Republicans, 2010 will be a debacle for the Dems. Obama will get the blame, and then Hillary will have a real chance of getting the nomination in 2012.

That was my thought as well..... pushing him to make bad moves to ensure a one term presidency.

I miss Bush.

Did Bill also tell Barry to find a sweet little intern to take his mind off all the pressure?

Funny that Bubba has kept a zipped lip since the early days of the Obamanation. Now he finds a voice.

Yes, could well be that he wants to see Obama sabotaged, and this is the way to do it.

Ignore the people's will and conservative leanings now...and have twin tidal waves wash you away in 2010 and 2012.

There's a sea change coming.

That would be SO embarrassing to Obama, to be hated so roundly by the Rats that they would go over his head to Hillary for the 2012 nomination.

The problem with Clinton’s analysis is that according to the bill, Obamacare doesn’t even take effect until 2013- after the next election.

Even if Clinton thinks the people will “love” socialized medicine- they won’t have experienced it by the next election cycle- so that can’t help the Democrats at all.

Clinton has a point - if Obama throws away all the Republicans - and the seniors who don’t trust “health care” and the independents - why HILLARY can run in 3 1/2 years...

Thanks for the welcome AmericanInTokyo. I know some conservatives didn’t care for Bush. There were certainly aspects of his presidency I didn’t like—spending, amnesty, etc. But I guess compared to Obama I’d miss just about any former president, even Jimmy Carter LOL, thus the screenname.
