A federal appeals panel has upheld a decision to bar the instrumental performance of a Christian hymn at a high school graduation in Everett.

The case arose after seniors in the Henry M. Jackson High School wind ensemble asked to play an instrumental version of "Ave Maria" at their commencement in June 2006. When school officials said no, one of the students, Kathryn Nurre, challenged them in court.

U.S. District Judge Robert T. Lasnik upheld the school district, ruling that Nurre's First Amendment rights had not been violated.

The commies need to be purged out of the judiciary as well as out of the other branches of government

Another federal judge imposing his own religious beliefs on everybody else. An instrumental does not contain the words, and it's only the words that count ~ otherwise it's just a neat tune.

If we can just get the federal judges to come to the bench with an understanding that they are to leave their own superstitions behind we will have won the victory.

An instrumental version? No one singing the dreaded religious lyrics? Even an instrumental version isn’t allowed.

It’s a nation of pinheads.

I am sick and tired of these idiot judges upholding the “rights” of a handfull of kooks to abrdige the rights of the majority of Americans.

This is not just a religious piece - its a great work of music written by a famous composer.

Its PAST time Americans took their country back from these idiot attorneys masquerading in judges garb. The pollution of career politicians and their career criminal courts is REPLICATING the charges against George III in the Declaration of Independence - almost every point.

Don’t know. But it might be illegal for me to think the chumps who made this ruling need to be tarred and feathered.

My all county band (maybe orchestra) played Amazing Grace, and it was one of the most moving songs I had ever played in my young musical education. No one got upset, no one protested, and that’s a little over a decade ago now.

Ok, and what do they propose using “Smok’n in the Boys Room” and “Daddy Don’t Preach.” “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder,” for I guess graduation is not for the students it is for Government aggrandizement; something similar to the Emmys, Grammies and Academy Awards.

Anything “religious” is the “scent of death” to the perishing.

It’s a nation of “lost”, and yes, pinheads as well.

No, not a nation. Just a well-situated, activist minority.

I guess we can get rid of Bach, too, who wrote a lot of religious music and said "Music's only purpose should be the glory of God and the recreation of the human spirit."

In addition to his secular music, Bach wrote a considerable amount of music for worship. He drew on the German tradition of hymn-tunes, and arranged many of them as cantatas, with elaborate choir settings for most stanzas, and a plain four-part setting for the final stanza, to be sung by the congregation with the choir. Normally each stanza is unique, using the melody traditional for that hymn, but with variations, particularly in the harmony, that reinforce the meaning of the words of that stanza. He wrote altogether about two hundred cantatas, including at least two for each Sunday and holy day in the Lutheran church year (matching the subject of the cantata with that of the Scripture readings prescribed for that day). Two of the better known are "Christ lag in Todesbanden" (Christ lay in the bonds of death"), based on an Easter hymn by Martin Luther; and "Jesu, meine Freude" (Jesus, all my gladness).

Play “What Child Is This” in December. When they come with the handcuffs tell them it’s “Greensleeves.”

Since government school means a citizen cannot bring their religion into their place of learning what do you think that means for government healthcare????!!!

Our whole lives and thoughts therein will be directed by the state.

I hope government TV is good....
