Toomey calls Obama speech 'inspiring'
Politico ^ | September 8, 2009 | Josh Kraushaar

Posted on 09/08/2009 12:29:30 PM PDT by Lou Budvis

In his past incarnation as the president of the conservative Club for Growth, Pat Toomey would have been hard-pressed to praise any speech from President Obama – no less one that’s been maligned by conservative activists.

But as he seeks to win over independents and moderates in his Pennsylvania Senate campaign, Toomey is taking a markedly different approach: Even as conservative critics accused the president of trying to indoctrinate students with a back-to-school speech, Toomey called the president’s speech to high school students “inspiring” and “moving.”

Like other commenters have stated, he’s probably trying to woo over a few “moderates”

With all due respect for Rush and his take on Sotomayor, I’m just not so sure that doing double back flip reverse psychology is really going to resonate with the American people in the long run. It may work for an entertainer like Rush, to some degree.

First of all, Pat is 12 pts ahead in the most recent polss...if that stays constant (and Arlen keeps floundering) PA could have (audible gasp) a Republican Senator!!!

Choosing “this” Obamination as an example of “standing up” to the Libs would be foolhardy here in PA. MOST districts elected NOT to show it anyway...so...Toomey, being savvy WHEN ASKED (as the Senate frontrunner) his thoughts...he took the PC high road.

No need to win a tiny squirmish and lose the big war.

I don't consider it a conservative speech:

And even when you’re struggling, even when you’re discouraged, and you feel like other people have given up on you – don’t ever give up on yourself. Because when you give up on yourself, you give up on your country. He is conflating self interest with state interest. This is not a conservative thought.

Was he asked? The Politico report just quotes him. Was that a press release or an interview?

My comment, was that he could have just said nothing. I think the Republican Conservative base is a bit tired of being taken ‘for granted’ right? Perhaps he’s doing what needs to be done in PA to get elected - but believe me, having a Riechart RINO in your district/Senatorial seat is almost worse than having a D there.

Reichert, for one, voted more often with PelosLIE, than he did with the Conservatives - a 48 rating from the Conservative group that does the rankings..

Perhaps I’m a bit of a rough audience...believe me, I’m going to give Toomey more of a chance than that.

Yes...Toomey does deserve a pass on this one (a non issue, IMO) when the real meat is Specter appearing at TownHslls across PA, with Sebelius, promoting the glories of ObamaCare. THAT is where Toomey takes a stand...not here on Obama missives. Too close to the goal of unseating Specter to lose favor over something like this.

I won’t vote for Toomey, Sestak of Sphincter. I’ll be throwing away my vote on a third party or writing in someone.

Good! I'm thrilled to hear that all the PA yo-yo's learned NOTHING by getting rid of Santorum because he was not perfect and installing Senator-For-Life Casey in his place. Why would we want to be rid of Specter? He was wonderful as a Republican and will be even better as an Obama a**kissing Democrat. I'm so pleased to learn that PA conservative voters are incapable of learning and we'll be stuck with both these fools until they are carted out of the Senate feet first. /s (I'm adding the /s because I'm positive if I didn't, YOU would believe that I'm serious.)

And while we're complimenting Barack on finally being able to see it our way on promoting personal responsibility & the value of hard work, maybe we can also give him some very public props for being so graciously accommodating about kicking Van Jones immediately out of the WH like we demanded, too.

The rad-left should just looooove to have their nose rubbed in their Messaiah's cave-in on that. LOL!

The speech was not his initial speech or he would have placed it with schools with his other curriculum demands found out to be against the law.

I found lies in the speech which to me is propaganda because he wants children to believe the book he wrote of his life was true. You repeat something often enough it becomes true ya’ know. The I went to a muslim school because my mother could not afford to send me where the American kids went carp. The part where his father left him when he was 2? Then the heart tug how he was different and his mother could not afford things for them. How about his mothers radical ways as a reason they never had any money?

The speech was depressing and all about Obama and his sad upbringing so you will understand why I am plundering your wealth kids.

AND my biggest complaint was if those children are suffering from their family losing jobs, obama sat there knowing he plans to destroy even more.

But now Obama is on notice he cannot tell dept of education how to teach or give them curriculum. How in the world will he do his infant to adult indoctrination without changing the whole school system? Oh wait, that is one of his agenda.

And obama told a child Universal health care was something he thought we could do and we can afford to do. After denying he wanted that he said it right there in the classroom.

Oh and Obama said he did some things and got trouble because of his terrible childhood. I can’t remember if he blamed not having a father or money on that one.

Boortz blew republicans away for even doing anything about obama’s speech.Media matters picked it up to gloat.

Neither mentioned Obama thought he had the right to take over classroom curriculum because he was president and he got caught. That is why the speech changed.

Did you see the video being shown in Classrooms? Demi Moore,I pledge to be a servant to Obama? I pledge to not flush the toilet,,,,,,

Not good but if Toomey can get elected doing this, I’ll take it.

If anyone has any doubts what obama wants to do, his bill sponsored I think last year, spells it all out. Get ‘em young and mold their minds so they are not a problem to control.

Oh come on now. For real? This was a freebie - a chance to play with the leftists' heads & undermine Obama's supporters' confidence in him while simultaneously staking out a strategic 'higher ground' advantage with the electorate.

Only a REAL republican in name only would pick up their marbles & go home on something so inconsequential as a PR move, & in the process condemn the residents of their own state - and themselves - to socialist rule over something as trivial as this.

We WON this one, for heaven's sake. His speech could have been written by Bill Bennett. Toomey's supposed to alienate all the voters in his state by deliberately mischaracterizing it as wretched when everybody can see for themselves it wasn't?

(Memo to self: find a freeper poker game in progress to join immediately.Easy money, for sure.)

His step dad Lolo worked for the government oil operations and then later for a oil company. Lolo should have had as much as anyone else in Indonesia.

But then that is if we are to believe they lived together. Now Obama seems to want the children to believe his mother supported him.

I believe Obama did not have a wealthy childhood. But many children didn’t and they did not grow up with the anger and hatred Obama has. I don’t think our children needed to hear the president say having a bad childhood is reason to get in trouble.

I thought I had a sarcasm tag on that post, I guess I didn’t. Should’ve been obvious though, but my bad. Needless to say, I have been and will continue to support Toomey. I don’t agree on him on everything, namely foreign policy, but he’s far superior to what we’ve had in PA and a true domestic conservative.

What in the heck is the matter with Neal Boortz? He sounds like an Obama groupie.

I think that the reason is that Neal’s a libertarian, and I suspect that he believes Obama’s going to legalize drugs, and therefore Obama has moved into the “good” category. Obama obviously will legalize drugs, sooner rather than later, because he wants the tax revenue. But it’s bizarre that libertarians are willing to dump everything else because they finally have a Dear Leader who thinks it’s all kool and groovy and can he have the name of their dealer?

Phew! If you'd posted that anywhere but here, it would have been assumed automatically to be sarcasm & you wouldn't have needed the tags. Unfortunately...well, ya know.

I guess this means I won't be able to snooker you in a game of freeper poker then. Darnit! I'd already picked out a new car, too. ;-)
