MADISON, Wis. -

Assembly Democrats want to pay for additional worker training and financial aid through a 1 percent income tax increase on those making more than $1 million.

State Rep. Cory Mason, a Democrat from Racine, announced the plan on Tuesday. The $145 million raised through the income tax would be used to get about $135 million in federal matching money.

Mason says the plan would provide additional financial aid and training to 40,000 Wisconsin residents.

Under the plan, grants would also be available to help small businesses retool to attract jobs. Additional money would also go toward tax credits to help startup businesses.

Mason says he hopes the Legislature passes the plan this fall.

See what happened in Maryland when a millionaires tax was introduced. They all moved out of state and Maryland actually collected LESS in taxes even with the tax increase (on those evil rich folks).

People who are smart enough to make money are not stupid enough to let government take it all away...

I want to say WTF but this is a blue state we’re talking about. Sadly Maryland tried this trick too and it resulted in 1/3 of the “millionaires” leaving this state.

I saw a brief proposal in MA -- Money is very tight in a lot of households and a lot of people can't put food on the table right now, so the plan was to increase the tax rate in order to help.

And people nod and say "Okay. That sounds like a plan.".

The jobs government “creates” through this tax scheme are at least a hundred times more important than the jobs destroyed, or at least inhibited, by the plan - even if twice as many jobs are destroyed.

Yeah, but in Wisconsin you'd have to move further. The neighboring states are Michigan, Minnesota, and Illinois, all liberal bastions. They may not have the new tax, but they've got all of the others.

Dim-bulb-crats think that when a plan has run out of airspeed and cannot climb any longer, pulling back on the stick still will make it go up.

Yup, let’s raise taxes. That’ll work to improve the economy.

What’ll you train these workers to do? All the real jobs are now in China.

Beyond ludicrous. Raising taxes to "create" jobs does NOT create jobs! Econ101.

Hee hee. The “training” usually consists of a one day class on MS-Word. The contractors get millions and spend thousands. This govt “retraining” stuff is pure hokum.

True, but for most rich people this is not a factor. I would presume that most people who are loaded could more easily move to a place like Florida or Texas than other people.

One day liberals will get smart and pass a “leaving the state tax” hitting anyone leaving their high taxed hell holes 10% of their total net worth.

Oh yeah, and some are planning to move their businesses overseas. When the rich want to do something, they usually find a way. However, Wisconsin DOH!

Don't tempt them. As soon as the revenues go down, they would try such a unconstitutional thing.

ANother nail in Wisconsin’s coffin. Can’t drive the people with money out fast enough. They can move anywhere friendlier. Come back to WI whenever they want, if they ever want to.

Typical lib moron solution.

It is not a blue state, it’s purple. It’s about somewhere 50-55 democrat, 45-50 republican. the problems that tip it to the dems in WI is that they don’t have voter photo ID laws - rejected/defeated by democrats - and vote fraud in urban areas is severe. So much so that in the prior elections there were more votes cast in Milwaukee than people that live there, by about ten thousand votes or more.
