The seven big questions about 2010
The Hill ^ | September 7, 2009 | Aaron Blake

Posted on 09/07/2009 4:34:39 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

The end of August means that many questions about who will be on the ballot in 2010 have been answered.

But with a mere 14 months to go in the election cycle — and that includes four months before the first big special election and five months before the first regularly scheduled primary — several big questions remain about who is running for what, and when.

The Hill brings you the seven major unanswered questions in the 2010 field of candidates — most of which will likely be answered in the 2009 calendar year.

I still hold out hope that George Pataki of New York and Linda Lingle of Hawaii will run, though they seem unlikely to do so.

Linda Lingle of Hawaii

Another RINO. A Collins/Snowe clone.

I like snow clones; especially the grape ones.

I think Lingle is a rainbow one.

I'd take Lieberman over Snowe any day.

>>> I still hold out hope that George Pataki of New York and Linda Lingle of Hawaii will run

While I'll admit they're probably the only Republicans likely to win a Senate race in their respective states, I don't see how the Senate GOP caucus will benefit from "more members" if all our new Senators (Kirk, Castle, Lingle, Simmons, etc.) are voting like Arlen Specter. Ironically this "more Republican" Senate would probably more helpful to Obama than the 60 RATs he has now.

I wouldn't vote for either one of those socialists, but Lieberman is the worst of the two as he votes liberal about 95% of the time compared to Snowe taking liberal positions about 70% of the time.

I'd have to check that, but as lefties go, Lieberman is pro-defense and definitely anti-Muslim. That goes a long way in my book.

ACU ratings for votes in 2008:

Lieberman, 8

Snow, 12.

Twelve. Pretty RINOish if you ask me.

Lieberman is a real phony, well-earned the moniker of the “Hamlet of the Potomac.” He truly rolled CT Republicans last time around, managing to get all those votes from them for someone who scored a perfect Stalinist goose egg from the ACU not long ago and didn’t give them anything in return, including refusing to give the GOP tied control from 2007-09 when he OWED them his reelection. I cannot believe any Republican, let alone Conservative, can sing hosannas to this guy when we’d crucify McCain who doesn’t vote a fraction as bad as he does. Crazy.

And for the record, in 2008, he got a 8% Conservative rating while seatmate Chris Dodd got a virtually indistinguishable 4%. Snowe got just a 12% and Collins a 20% (though their lifetime scores are actually closer to 50%, though not to excuse their odiously bad recent votes).

Even Dingy Reid got a 16.

Sorry. A 'Rat who is a Hawk getting 8 from the ACU beats a RINO getting 12.

Well buccaneer, I'd have to agree with you that genghis's "snowe is better than any democrat" premise is wrong, but disagree with you about respecting the even more liberal Joe Lieberman. I think fieldmarshaldj is spot on when he wonders how conservatives can fawn over Lieberman while despising his much more conservative chum McCain. Clearly McCain's staunch support of the surge and the WOT didn't help with his popularity among freepers, though during Lieberman's election several insisted that the was "the most important issue". The same can be said of Olympia Snowe, she's "pro-defense and anti-Muslim"... you can go to some liberal sites and see they hate her record on the WOT (e.g. http://deepblade.net/journal/2004/08/olympia-snowe-job.html ) , but that doesn't excuse the fact she's voting with the left the other 65-90% of the time (varies from year to year).

My guess is you could probably find some fairly centrist Maine Democrats who vote "more conservative" than Snowe overall, the same is true here in Illinois when I debunked the "even if Kirk is a RINO, he's still more conservative than any Illinois Democrat" talking point a few weeks ago, and located over a dozen elected Democrat legislators in Illinois who have higher conservative ratings than Kirk.

We could have some genuine improvements in the Senate if we get people like John Hoeven and Pat Toomney to replace RATs, but I think the freepers who believe guys like Mark Kirk, Linda Lingle, Mike Castle, etc., will be "with us when it counts" are in for a rude awakening. I honestly can't think of any really close vote where Kirk is going to be an improvement over our current lame duck, zero-clout RAT Senator, Roland Burris. On the other hand, I can think of several high profile pieces of legislation where having Kirk in office to "fight" for the leftist cause would have benefited them more than Burris. Electing a bunch of Republicans to the Senate from the Olympia Snowe wing of the party isn't going to help us anymore than "Republican rule" under Arnold Schwartzenegger has helped conservatives in California. It's unfortunate many conservative haven't learned from the Jeffords, Chafee, and Specter years that being "pragmatic" by nominating "RINOs in blue states" didn't accomplish anything.

Not long enough since he’s a down the line leftist liberal moonbat on everything else.

Consider Snowe as a democrat. Between her and Joe the media whore and would be election thief she’s the more moderate and more respectable one.

It’s not that she’s good, it’s that he’s that bad.

As DJ said they all suck.
