Wikipedia claims, "A cult of personality arises when a country's leader uses mass media to create an idealized and heroic public image, often through unquestioning flattery and praise."
As this typically occurs in a totalitarian nation, that country's ruler, with complete control of the media, is able to mandate what images of him or herself are being disseminated thereby furthering his cult-like status.
As Barack Obama did not become president until January 20 of this year, it seems irrefutable that his cult of personality was bestowed upon him by so-called journalists who in order to help him get elected abdicated their solemn responsibility to report the truth to the American people.
Twenty years before this happened, the funk metal band "Living Colour" prophecised such an eventuality with their smash hit "Cult of Personality."
For your entertainment pleasure this Labor Day, what follows is a video of this astoundingly prescient song as well as a recent adaptation with images from last year's campaign designed to help put all the disturbing pieces together (h/t Edward Rohrback):

President Bush had a cult following as well. So did Bubba, and Reagan, this is nothing new.
I’ve always hated to hear how Obama ran such an “amzaing campaign”...who couldn’t have a dazzling campaign with the media as your bootlick carrying your water -—exaggerating your qualities—erasing your faux pas -—and ridiculing the opposition (Palin et al) every step of the way....?
If you heard the speech today, and why would anyone do that on purpose, it’s obvious he thinks no one has heard his shuck and jive act before.
He can do the shuck and jive, to the union thugs, now if he could only tell the truth.
telling the truth is ‘above his pay grade’
Clinton and 0bama had theirs based in the alphabet networks and major “papers of record”. Bush 1 and 2 were hated by those same media, who did everything to destroy them. How can you make this comparison? Where is your head?
When and how did the media glorify Reagan or Bush?
What's new is that those three cannot compare in terms of Obama's ubiquitous appearances, saturation media coverage, and the level of protection afforded him by an adoring media. Obama has taken this cult thing to a new level.
The Media screwed up like the Dog that caught the car, what can he do now? The MSM crap and pretend will not help now!
Bump
I disagree, as this is different in kind. Here, after a campaign that centered entirely around the person of Barack Obama and vapid, contentless words like "hope and change", the same relentless focus on the individual of the president, rather than the nation or the common good, continues to be encouraged by the White House, with their O symbols everywhere, their "Organizing for Change" community activist network, the DOE lesson plans for the Obama address to schoolchildren, etc.
There is something “creepy” about a president with Logos and slogans. Like marketing shoes or beer.
“We’re going to sell Jack like soap flakes, “ Joe Kennedy (Father of JFK, RFK, and Teddy K) said, and sell him they did.

“The Media screwed up like the Dog that caught the car, what can he do now? The MSM crap and pretend will not help now!”
That’s so true. The thing the MSM doesn’t understand is that with this guy there’s a treasure trove of Pulitzer-worthy stories about corruption and treason just waiting to be written. You’d think they’d be willing to eat a little crow in return for a payoff in the form of a world class prize and their names forever in history. They’d make Woodward and Bernstein look like Penny Saver authors by comparison.
I have no use for them reporting biased and untrue stories as news should be treated as a capitol crime,Enough of this brainwashing the brainless.
The man who broke the Teddy and the KGB story wrote recently that no one in the media would touch the story.
they had no problem bringing down Nixon...but Teddy being a traitor...they could care less.
On what planet is that?
Sure wasn’t this planet.
The media was on a 24/7 attack mode against Reagan and Bush 365 days a year. I didn’t see no media created "Cult of Personality" on either Reagan or Bush.
he man who broke the Teddy and the KGB story wrote recently that no one in the media would touch the story.
they had no problem bringing down Nixon...but Teddy being a traitor...they could care less.”
That is something we have to change this has gone too far.
