The Easton Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People wants the State Theatre to cancel a talk by television bloviator Glenn Beck.
Granted, Beck is a pompous little troll, has no self control on the air and will regret, over time, being defined as the man who called America's first black president a racist.
But he is what he is, a TV talking head who is now being marketed as an entertainer. At any one moment he's no different than Bill O'Reilly, Keith Olbermann or Lou Dobbs.
They all, to one degree or another, market degrees of hate to a consistent constituency.
Every now and again, such as some of NBC's presidential debate coverage, they masquerade as real journalists, but that's not their role. They exist to ooze opinion.
Glenn Beck, or any other wacko who doesn't yell "fire" in a theater, deserves the right to responsible speech. If people are willing to pay to hear it, that's up to them. And if the State Theatre can capitalize on that, that's business, not politics.
And then you'll understand why Shelley Brown, the State Theatre's executive director, can't cancel a performer simply because a sector of society doesn't like what he or she has to say.

I used to subscribe to this paper, but never again.
..ever notice how roaches scatter when light hits them?
The only person that markets hate is Keith Olbermann. Obviously the Express Times has never watched Glenn Beck.
and will regret, over time, being defined as the man who called America's first black president a racist. So if 0bama were white then it would be OK to point out that he's a racist, but since he's a black racist, it's not?
Thanks for the info! Since I’m only and half hour from Easton, I will have to purchase a couple of tickets to see Glenn.
That’s right, but this paper endorsed Obama, they don’t seem to care how many subscribers they lose.
The editorial staff may call him a ‘Pompous Little Troll’, but they defend his right to say what he says and admonishes the NAACP for trying to silence him.
Want some more.
There is plenty where that came from. just bring it, y'all
"White man's greed runs a world in need." Nothing racist to see there, nope. Both Obama and his wife are racist to the bone. It's really past time to confront black racism.

You will love the State Theater! It’s been totally and beautifully restored.
Beck has our support, the truth is like sunlight to a vampire!
anyone else done catering to the minorities?
Express-Times doesn’t call Van Jones a pompous little troll because they don’t mention him. Anyone who reads the Express doesn’t usually get informed about any of the Obama controversies.
This editorial says way more about the paper than it does Glenn Beck.
Beck's viewership is what compared to your circulation?
Van Jones is gone and I hope the staff at the "Express-Times " will enjoy the unemployment line soon too!
This was once a great locally owned paper.
If I attended meetings of the KKK for 20 years, I would expect to be called a “racist”. And rightly so.
Obama attended a racist “black liberation theology” church for 20 years. Why shouldn’t he be called a “racist”?
This staff has been alienating local residents with their political views, and the letters to the editor reflect it.
Exactly right...
Why is it that these newspaper types just cannot countenance competition or dissent. The most foul of the TV talkers come from the Left and Olberman is thrown in there to make the piece seem even-handed.
Beck is a little to emotional and etc, etc. However, it does not make him any less correct in his assertions.
And for the record 0bama is a racist, so, I don't see how Beck could regret that statement. Or is the point that Beck will be the first sent to prison for criticizing Barry the Bolshevic
