Based on my own experience it is *definitely* this.
They are obsessed with "controlling the debate" which is, in itself, a decent strategy. Their problem is that they lie. And then they believe their own lies and think that everyone else does, too. That is their weakness and our strength because we can stick to verifiable facts and bring them down just as Glenn Beck did with a-hole Jones.
The same thing it tells us about Howard Dean...he said it was a great loss for America about Jones resignation...
