One trick to keep your lies afloat is to at least pretend to have integrity. Even the MSM can't ignore something this big forever and not be excoriated, especially since there was a resignation. This way they get to say "better late than never" and try to brush it off.
What they are starting to realize is that the regular folk don't believe them at all anymore - except for the partisans and even they know it's a lie - and to play these little stunts makes them look much worse than they wish it did.
