Well, in defense of Brokaw, he did say that misinformation and disinformation runs “across the political spectrum,” although I’m sure he believes that the problem is far worse among conservatives, and I’m sure that he thinks the mainstream media are almost always reliable sources of information. When he said that people need to be careful and vet the information they hear, I’d totally agree, but I’d also say that I am forced to vet the information that comes from the mainstream media every bit as much as I vet Internet sources.

Friedman was annoying. He acted as if the Van Jones situation was an unprecedented instance of someone being taken down by an offhand, imprudent comment. First of all, Jones was not being castigated for one foolish comment, but for a lifelong pattern of anti-American attitudes. Secondly, conservatives are routinely bashed for isolated comments or for words said many years ago. As Friedman was speaking, I thought of Robert Bork, who was mercilessly attacked precisely for the sort of questioning and speculative reasoning that you would expect from a professor of law.

Well we know Tom Brokaw has never been in the disinformation business. I’ll be sure to filter everything through him to know what to think.

Friedman must have been so frustrated and equally vocal when George Allen was taken out by the macaca comment.

True, but that's if you even hear the story from the MSM. There's not only control/power to be gained by promoting agendas but also control/power in omission.

Mercifully, fewer people give a damn what Tom Brokaw thinks every day.
