Taxpayer March expects big draw --Republican congressmen to join rally
THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | September 6, 2009 | Kristi Jourdan

Tens of thousands of demonstrators are expected to descend upon the nation's capital next weekend to voice their concerns about what they call Congress' "nonstop tax-and-spend agenda" in the first-ever Taxpayer March on D.C.

The three-day event will begin Thursday morning at the D.C. Armory in Southeast Washington and is expected to end Saturday with a march from Freedom Plaza down Pennsylvania Avenue to a rally on the U.S. Capitol steps. Participants can attend workshops and lobby their congressmen while attending rallies on health care and the economy.

The National Park Service says it has issued permits for more than 2,000 people for the Freedom Plaza gathering. That number is a fraction of the crowd expected to show at the rally.

U.S. Park Police also expect a decent turnout because of the national attention the event has garnered from newspaper and television reports and from grass-roots groups organizing on the Internet. Organizers could be seen handing out fliers for the event at recent health care town-hall meetings in Maryland.

"Those health care town halls put an interesting twist on things," said Sgt. David Schlosser, a Park Police spokesman. "As it stands right now, it's obviously bigger than routine permits where you literally have three people. There should be a pretty good turnout - people are super ramped up for it."

It would be a great idea, if those who can’t go to DC, to show up in their town squares. Put one million people on 100 TV stations and you start a showball against big government. Time to let the RNC and DNC know we are sick of pols getting rich by using insider deals - see Charlie Rnagle and Duke Cunningham (now in jail).

Don’t let the Republicans corrupt the Tea Party movement. They are just as guilty as the liberals.

I disagree - they're only 80% as guilty. But I do agree that they needn't corrupt the Tea Party movement.

Only the conservative handful should be invited.

We're doing that in my town....

..first at City Hall in the AM and then a larger venue-(that can hold thousands) in the afternoon, where Glenn Beck had a camera panning on the crowd last time in the spring, and may have again.

Won't be the same as being in DC though.

Exactly, I'm putting in a lot of time, effort, and money to be there, as is everyone else.

I don't want to go to a gathering polluted by a bunch of Republican politcians who have help caused this mess. I will consider it a waste of my time and efforts.

Oh how I wish we could be there! I hope this march finally shakes those inside of the Capital to understand that America has had it with their policies. NO Cap and Trade, no Healthcare reform, stop spending us into debt! I personlly am hoping that this one is larger than anything DC has seen before.

We must be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

You are right that the Republican leadership should stand aside, for the most part, and let We The People lead this movement, though.

In fact, there may be a fair number who are now in DC who are will be able to be counted on in the future, but let’s not dwell on that now. The important thing is that the people show that we are concerned about the Constitution and that we demand that all of those in DC begin to consider the Constitution as the Supreme Law of our country.

Methinks that, once again, grassroots conservatives have been grossly misunderestimated.(teehee)
