Two American journalists freed by North Korea after 4 1/2 months of captivity have admitted that they had crossed into the communist state.
But they also say they were back across the border - "firmly back inside China," according to their joint statement - when North Korean border guards chased and apprehended them, then "violently dragged" them back into the North.
The journalists, Laura Ling and Euna Lee, posted their account late Tuesday on the Web site of their San Francisco organization, CurrentTV. It was their first explanation of how they were apprehended on March 17. Former President Bill Clinton secured their release, which took place Aug. 4.
The journalists said they hoped their dramatic episode would not overshadow the story they had gone there to cover: the plight of North Koreans living under a harsh regime and the difficulties they face once smuggled into China.
"We didn't spend more than a minute on North Korean soil before turning back, but it is a minute we deeply regret," the reporters said.
They said that when they had arrived with a CurrentTV producer, Mitch Koss, at the Tumen River, which separates China and North Korea, they had no intention of leaving China. But when their Korean Chinese guide "beckoned" for them to follow him across the frozen river, they said they did, eventually reaching the North Korean riverbank, which overlooked a small village.

Hey, they are lucky they were not killed. There has been many instances that North Korean troops taking aim at the troops at the DMZ.
I think we all assumed that there was a lot more to this than was being reported, and I’m glad this didn’t come out until after they were released and are home safely.
That said, the real world is a dangerous place, and there are very real consequences for one’s actions. These two are lucky that the NoKo’s didn’t just shoot them as soon as they spotted them over the border.

I don’t think any of them could pass my 8th grade American History or freshman (High School) Western Civ class, back in the days when real history was taught as opposed to that multi-culti crap that Tucker Carlson featured this weekend on Fox News.

I don’t care about these cry babies. Their stated purpose was to reveal the brutal attitude of the Jong Il regime so what did they expect? As it is, they victimized every American and rewarded their captors. Mission accomplished, you ninnies.
