The key point about the Van Jones affair is what it tells us about Barack Obama. Jones isn't someone who slipped through the cracks of the vetting process. We know this because, as Scott pointed out earlier today, top Obama aide Valerie Jarrett has said, "So, Van Jones, we were so delighted to be able to recruit him into the White House; we were watching him. . .for as long as he's been active out in Oakland."
Having watched the rise of Van Jones, why did Team Obama nonetheless "recruit" him into the White house? Because what Jones says and believes is well within the range of what Obama believes, and thus not jarrring to him and his crew.
If Jones is now beyond the pale, it is only because the Obama crowd finally hears him through the filter of a controversy. When Obama and company heard him only through the filter of what they believe, there was no controversy because his statements -- e.g., his attack on Israeli "occupation" dating back to 1948 and his claim that "U.S. tax dollars are funding violence against people of color inside the U.S. borders and outside the US borders" -- are not particularly controversial to Team Obama.
This, of course, is the Rev. Jeremiah Wright phenomenon all over again. Wright's racist, anti-Israeli, anti-American statements didn't jar Obama while he was sitting in Wrights's church for 20 years because they were not that different from what Obama believes. Even when controversy erupted and Obama's political future was on the line, Obama at first found Wright's pronouncements no more in need of being "disowned" than his grandmother's view that she'd rather be driven to work than be panhandled by an aggressive man at the bus station. It took a shot by Wright at Obama himself to jar cause the candidate to break with his spiritual mentor.
The Jones phenomenon signifies that, as my friend Bill Otis likes to say, the left "can't hear itself." That's why when it heard Jones, all it detected was "creative ideas" and "energy" to bring to the White House.
To quote Bill again, "Van Jones is simply Jeremiah Wright behind a White House desk."
Amen to that.
Dear Leader, his inner circle including Van Jones and most democrats have Race Cards to play at will - Platinum Edition.
I would bet (90%) that the next civil war has just begun!
Heheh...mine too, but can't spend my life trying to prove anything to your best friends or mine.
That said, I think we are on the edge of a new civil war. And in this war the enemy is difficult to identify...and it doesn't make sense shooting at those who are ultimately on our side.
The evidence is mounting each and every day that this President and his coterie of “advisors” are moving this country toward Socialism (the big “S” kind). When we started moving left, most on the Left and even some on the Right had no problem with this - after all, the President and the Democrats deserve to advance their agenda, which is naturally a liberal one. But, having witnessed the speed and aggressiveness these people started forcing their agenda, avoiding public scrutiny and fostering an air of imperialism in the body politic, people are becoming alarmed (and rightly so). We are only just learning that the Plan, as I like to call it, was hatched by Rahm Emmanuel, Valerie Jarrett, Van Jones, and other like-minded radicals, and applied the Cloward/Piven strategy and muscle like ACORN and the SEIU to convince the people that government is the answer to everything. By getting us agree to government intervention in crises, (only in an emergency, they tell us), they then set about creating crises so they step in and seize control. Looking at Van Jones, David Axelrod, Valerie Jarrett (remember her as the one Rahm Emmanuel wanted Blagojevich to appoint to replace Obama as Senator), we see that part of the strategy is to place members of this radical and unified cadre into positions of authority with the burden of public or Congressional scrutiny. If you don’t believe that this is the Plan, look for more crises to arise that have murky origins and, when more closely examined, were born of Democratic actions (Fannie and Freddie and the housing crash is an example, or Democrat-backed unions driving their industries into the ground).
I noticed on my social networking site that a dear, sweet, devout Christian friend of mine, who happens to be black, became a fan of Van Jones.
can anyone explain this phenomenon to me? Im serious, I would like some input.
This is very very disturbing to me.
There’s an awful lot being said about Jones being a “self-avowed communist”, but it seems to me that the “convicted felon” label ought to be just a big a disqualification(?)
Ask your friend.
"We know this because, as Scott pointed out earlier today, top Obama aide Valerie Jarrett has said, "So, Van Jones, we were so delighted to be able to recruit him into the White House; we were watching him. . .for as long as he's been active out in Oakland.""
No, it’s a sensitive issue. I’m asking for insight from anyone who might have some.
As represented by voting patterns. /S
Evil has a disturbing face.
Youve been conned.
Screwed might be a better word.
My opinions of Obama and Van Jones are not based on their race.....so I am more than puzzled why you brought the whole thing up in the first place.
I intended to comment on the general need we all have NOT to be caught up in the race baiting games played Van Jones and Jeremiah Wright.
Apparently, I expressed myself poorly.
No biggie. Thanks for the apology.
