Rick Perry, KBH understand concern over Obama's speech to school kids

Gov. Rick Perry says he can understand why some parent are upset that President Obama plans to talk to school children next Tuesday via a webcast. The event is touted as a way for the president to talk to students about the importance of education and taking responsibility for learning. Presidents Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush made similiar pitches to school kids way back when, in a different time, in a different political atmosphere.

In an interview with AP, Perry said he disagreed with some conservative groups calling on parents to pull their children out of school, saying, he's "certainly not going to advise anybody not to send their kids to school that day."

But he also blamed the White House for not letting local schools and parents know more about what he was planning to say.

Political rival Hutchison also added her voice of concern: "I share the concerns of many parents about the President addressing schools in a way that leaves little choice for parents if the speech includes a political agenda. The original worksheet put out by the Department of Education raised this possibility and caused a legitimate public outcry."

As for his political future, Perry said he has no intention of seeking national office. "Unless my family is at gunpoint, I will not go to Washington, D.C."

Since everybody has raised such a stink, I doubt his speech will be anymore political that GHWB's or RR's now, but I guarantee you that had this not been brought to our attention, our children would have gotten a good solid quarter hour of Obama indoctrination.

The text will be release on September 7th so I doubt it will offend too many...of course with so many of the teachers being union members and in the 0 camp, I suspect there will still be some attempt at indoctrination.

Perry, as titular head of the schools, can't call for parents to keep their kids at home, but he sure as heck could have stood up and said "Not in our state!" and sent the word out that the schools were not to show it without parental permission...would that he had.

We’ll never know, because Captain Transparency never told anyone what he planned to say...

George HW Bush
^^^^^^^^^^^^^

George HW Bush spoke to **one** high school in Washington, D.C. ( which, by the way, **is** under the supervision of congress).

I am certain that GW Bush did not address the nation’s children or the main stream media would have gone NUTZ!

Well...I know...or at least have a very good idea simply based on his inherent arrogance, past performance, and Marxist philosophy. :)

But of course, you are right...there is no way we could ever prove it...which is what all of the liberals are counting on as they make snide remarks about the "rightwing extremists hypocritical reaction."

That's the problem we face. If we intercept his actions before they occur, he can play the innocent and point to us as extremists; if we don't then he gets away with committing a heinous act and all we can do is howl away ineffectually. Either way he wins.

“Either way he wins.”

For now...I think that we’ll be saying goodbye to this privelege pretty soon...the Swifties took more than 9 months from the time they hit our sites until they penetrated the MSM, but when they did, it was all over for Kerry...who still has a long face...

Sorry for having to ask. This old okie is wondering what’s going on in TX.

From the news my impression has been Perry is more conservative than Hutchinson, and that Hutchinson has been too willing to compromise in support of Democrats. Yet, the comments from both on this issue seems to project Hutchinson as more conservative.

Am I right or wrong and which candidate are real conservatives supporting in TX?
