The big chair (Sarah Palin the heir to Churchill, Kennedy?)
The Washington Times ^ | September 6, 2009 | Jennifer Harper

Many Republicans have great affection for Sarah Palin for her style, grit, charisma, tenacity and cool shoes. But now we find that she also has a certain self-assured political demeanor — an intangible — that grants her power. The former Alaska governor is "head of the table" material, a quality shared by such heavyweights as Winston Churchill and Sen. Edward Kennedy, says Jeffrey Lord of The American Spectator.

"Wherever I sit is the head of the table," Mr. Churchill once remarked to a hostess concerned about seating arrangements.

"A year after her emergence on the national scene, it is crystal clear that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has this 'head of the table' gene in spades. She is, in a remarkable way, the real heir — make that heiress — to Senator Kennedy. She is charismatic, she has a decided point of view and she is a lightning rod for controversy," Mr. Lord says.

"This is what really drives Sarah Palin's critics nuts. She sits up there in Alaska with Todd and the kids, taps out a few words on her Facebook page, and presto! ObamaCare has a torpedo amidships! Without doubt this causes Palin's rivals, just as it once did with Churchill's and Teddy Kennedy's, to fret and fume if not foam," he adds.

Mr. Lord later concluded, "But like Ted Kennedy, Sarah Palin has a gift. An ability to make Americans focus on the issue of the day — and likewise the head of the table ability to lead the country in a specific direction. … She may be president of the United States. Or like Ted Kennedy, she may never be president of the United States.(continued)

Unless she has her own Chappaquiddick (highly unlikely) I predict she'll be president, and I'll do my best to raise one million dollars for her campaign.

Nobody seems to be willing to speak the plain English truth--Sarah Palin has charisma, and that means, as with other charismatic leaders, she will inspire both great loyalty and great animosity.

It also means she can go as far as her ambition and determination will carry her.

Calling her an heir to the Swimmer is disgusting; she’s an heir to Ronald Reagan, one of our two greatest presidents.

I still am a skeptic.

I like her, I think some of her message is appealing, but if she does run, she better get a real thick skin. Not only will she have to fight BHO and the dems, but the whole SRM apparatus.

I just don't know if she is presidential material. She is the only Republican that has the base excited

Come on! Her shoes? :) And another cherished Churchilism for my collection! Indeed, he WAS the head of the table. Could Palin not but be the same?

I think comparing Sarah Palin to Winston Churchill is a wee bit premature, to say the least.

God requites according to our works.

Young blacks like Jesse Jackson worked their whole lives fighting for equality and now the seeds of the 1960’s have reached maturity.

So it will be for the women’s movement in the near future.

Next, there is going to be a woman President; the question is: will it be Palin or someone else?

WHATEVER role she plays, we’re better off WITH her than without!

Since the very first day she emerged on the national scene she has changed the balance of power between the left and right in America and the right and moderate within the republican party.

I cringe to think what the 2008 defeat and election of the Obama administration would have been like with out her in the midst of all that melancholy and defeatism being at the head of a huge national battle about HER! Watching her gave us something to cling to and then rally around instead of wallowing in our Romney, McCain, Huckabee future of mediocrity and Senator Doles and middle of the road politics as we resumed our old post WWII GOP position of being mostly a passionless Rockefeller party of democrat lite.

Palin improves the entire national political situation, even her opponents are improved by having her open up a broader path for republican candidates, when I look at people like Governor Perry I can't help but think that some of his new found boldness is because of the courage and boldness that emanates from Sarah Palin to the entire GOP no matter where they are on the political spectrum.

For inspiration, last night I watched Sarah’s GOP Convention speech from a year ago on You Tube, and reflected how much she changed politics in that time and how much she and her family have endured from a hosyile media and the Communist Democrat Party.

It also made me remember the tremendous hope I had one year ago that she was reinflating the popped balloon that was out candidate almost singlehandedly. Then came another gift in Joe the Plumber.

And our candidate threw everything away with his stupid suspend-the-campaign stunt. When he said we had nothing to fear from an Obama Presidency, I knew the race was lost.

But Sarah, bless her, kept fighting the good and noble fight. And our candidate would not even defend her when dhe was savaged after Nov. 5th.

John McCain is a turd, an ingrate,a Manchurian candidate and he took a dive paid for by George Soros.

The only one who fought Obama was Sarah.

Replay that speech from one year ago and listen closely when she talks about Obama—she had him pegged perfectly.

She is the only one worthy of our vote in 2012.

Oh Please!

Sarah has already proven she can take it. What you may be mistaking for a lack of 'a real thick skin' is her refusal to just sit back and take it, which in my humble opinion, is one of her most endearing qualities.

Sarah is a fighter, first and foremost, and I will take her approach to fighting back everytime some liberal hack decides to deceitfully attack her over the limp-wristed approach taken by every other GOP man/woman in a elected position anyday!

You said that you were banned already for anti Palin posting under the name Lakertaker but that name does not come up as banned or active or anything, what was the name of your other account?

No politician has taken more abuse yet she would run for president.

The last thing I would do is lecture Sarah on not having a thick skin.

Agreed, and very good point!

She's like the Tirpitz. She changes the equation of sea political warfare simply by existing.

Of course this battleship - to use Sarah's own words - will not remain in harbor.

Me too.

After all, Winston Churchill had WWII as a backdrop.

Just because he was Prime Minister during the great one, doesn't make him as profound as Sarah Palin is politically!
