A Berkeley store owner has agreed to stop selling candy bars and sodas to middle school students who come to his store for a morning fix in a move school officials say is a first in the city.
That means students seeking Snickers, Twix or Coca-Cola will be out of luck from 8 to 9 a.m. before they start their day at Longfellow Middle School.
Friendly Market owner Yaser Musid, who has five kids of his own, said he will lose up to $100 a day in the deal. But he agreed with school counselor Rosina Keren that keeping junk food away from kids before school is a good idea.
Keren said the ban on snack sales for just one hour of the day is the most any store owner has agreed to in Berkeley.
Musid said he will offer more fruits and granola bars during that time instead.
Keren made the announcement to sixth graders Thursday morning during a school assembly.

More evidence for what David Horowitz pointed out on Beck the other day. Liberals are only liberal about sex and drugs. On everything else, they want to control your life If we give it a moment's thought we have an upside-the-head-smacking moment and say "that's absolutely correct! Why didn't I notice this before?"

Yaser Musid agreed to sell only granola. Ya, right. Anyone hear of taqiyya? Someone should do a little investigative reporting, go undercover as a kid, and see how much candy this nice man will sell you.

So, they’ll get it somewhere else or they’ll get it and eat it before school. So what???????????????

If we give it a moment's thought we have an upside-the-head-smacking moment and say "that's absolutely correct! Why didn't I notice this before?" I know. I had the same feeling myself!
But I have an afterthought. They are also very liberal towards criminals. Other than these three, they are statist control freaks.

And I think granola bars have just as much junk in them as candy bars, if not more.

I went to a Catholic grammar school in The Bronx. Every classroom had several boxes of different types of candy. Once a day, we would have a short break, and one or two of the children would walk around the classroom selling the candy for the nuns. Cost was 1 or 2 cents a piece. It was one way the nuns raised extra money. I wonder if they are burning in Hell for this now.

I agree. Anyone ever look at the grams of sugar and corn syrup sweetener in fruit roll ups and granola bars. Some of them are so high in sugar, it's like eating pure sugar from the sugar bowl.
