Called LISD and a letter was sent out to all the schools from the central office. The letter stated that normal classroom instruction would not be interrupted by the presidential broadcast in any medium, internet or TV. YEA! LISD! Any others checked on this in their area?
Isn’t it funny that Obama refused to release the speech until Monday which is a holiday.
Yesterday, the superintendent of the Llano ISD sent parents this letter announcing a similar decision. We made our views known as soon as this story broke.

Good! I would just as soon not to have my grandchildren be indoctrinated by the SOB!
I have to wonder how the WH and the administration is taking this. Have to believe they were bind sided and must be wondering what hit them. Also wonder if they see the larger context of a growing number of people just flat don’t trust him, his administration or the democrat congress and this is one way saying so.
I love living here, I love the music, culture, food, and the conservatism.
The schools in Montgomery Texas will not be airing this mess either.
Hey Barry.........Can you hear us now?
Souhegan High School in Amherst, NH will show the speech in the school theater, but it is optional for the students.
“normal classroom instruction would not be interrupted “
Don’t get out the party hats. Perhaps “normal instruction won’t be interrupted”, but this does not mean “it will not be shown”. This is bureaucrat speak for “we’ll find another way or time to do it”.
Government schools will say whatever they need to keep parents in the dark and happy.
10:1 this school district will lose a boatload of federal funding.
Oh, this is the same county with the best schools in the state of Tn. Oh this is a county that has a church on every corner. Oh, this is a county ranked 10th in wealth in the US by WSJ.
My daughter went from K-12 in these schools and I volunteered each year in the school. There were ususally more parents in the school than teachers. High volunteerism. We invest in our children. Most of them have all paid off as good citizens and productive people.
O wants to change education? Williamson Co. could show him how.
“I have to wonder how the WH and the administration is taking this.”
Remember Ruplestiltskin? He was so pissed that he drove his right foot so far into the ground that he sank in up to his waist. Then he took his left with both hands and tore himself in two. I picture Gibbs, Emmanuel, and Hussein like this.
We will be keeping tabs on the school and any plans for teachers to present the recording. Several school faculty and administration attend our church. The word will get out if this recording is included in a lesson plan. I’m sure some of the liberal teachers are fuming and will try to get the speech shown in some devious manner.
This is where I graduated H.S. I’m not surprised. There was a morning prayer over the intercom every day for the 3 yrs I went there except for the 2 weeks that State Auditors were there.
I graduated from LHS in 1987. GO LIONS!
Good Job!
Shepherd ISD will not be showing the address either.
Given all the money we put into our schools through property taxes and fuel taxes, they shouldn't need federal funding.
Here’s a few Texas ISDs and their positions:
The following is a link to a list of the DFW area of how various school districts are handling the speech. Districts are listed alphabetically:
http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local-beat/Schools-Ponder-Showing-Obamas-Education-Speech-56742732.html
Cookeville, TN isn’t showing it either.
The Barbers Hill ISD will not be showing it either.
“Address to students...
President Obama will deliver a national address to students on September 8 at noon ET. The president will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning. BHISD will not broadcast this live to students. There will be a link to the recorded broadcast after Sep 8 so parents and students can watch it together.”
They knew all Hell would break loose if they did show it.
They still couldn’t resist some mealy mouth words though.
It's not just happening in Texas, believe it or not it's happening here in Illinois too!
My wife sent an email to our school district board and asked what their policy was regarding having the school kids watch Obama's speech next week.
Their reply was this:
First, they will not be showing Obama's speech live in any classroom in the school district.
Second, the School Board will preview the speech first.
Third, any teacher that wants to show the speech in their classroom will first have to submit to the school board in writing how the speech directly relates to the material being taught in their classroom. The school board will review the teacher's request, review the classroom materials and lesson plans being used by the teacher to validate the appropriateness of the request.
Finally, if the school board determines that the teacher has a legitimate request to show the speech in their classroom, the parents of all children in the class must be given written notice by the teacher, with a form to be signed by the parents indicating their approval (or not..) to have their children view the video.
I live in the People's Socialist RepubliK of Illinois in one of the collar counties outside of Chicago and cook county. This isn't some small podunk school district, it covers some 20,000+ kids. For this reaction to be happening here in Illinois Obama's "home state" it should show the entire country just how far and how fast this "President's" trustworthiness and credibility has fallen.
BTW, it's not just our school district, it's happening all over the state here.
I'm truly heartened by the reactions of parents in our school district, it gives me some small smidgen of hope for the future (and the 2010 elections!)
