Why is the US Army hiring mortuary specialists who will train others or serve operationally in "mass fatality management and response...determining and tracking mortuary affairs capabilities and readiness status.. Participates with... Federal civilian agencies...on such matters as Homeland Defense and Civil Support operations, consequence management operations, planning future operations"?
The US Federal Govt's official job recruitment website is http://www.usajobs.opm.gov where you may search on 'mortuary' and see the many returns.
The vacancy for 'Services Technicians' is recruiting MANY candidates via one vacancy announcement that will execute CIVILIAN mortuary affair functions all across the USA.
Do you suppose that the US govt is expecting mass civilian fatalities in the USA soon?
Come quickly Lord Jesus.
Well a huge Earthquake in Memphis, LA, or SF could do it.

Islam knows this President is a joke and will certainly try to put a nuke into this country at some point. What better time for them than when Barracko the Clown is in office?
Double sniff...
After Katrina I would expect this.
Not to mention the Indonesian EQ and all the dead bodies.
IMO nothing sinister in the works here.
After school shootings in the past there were nationwide practice response exercises across America. Same thing.
His/her other posts pass the sniff test quite well.
I have been surprised that there are not that many personnel trained im mass fatalities. I was in a Marine Corps Reserve unit that had the ONLY mortuary affairs unit in the entire Marine Corps (active and reserve). Now here is the crazy thing, if I remember correctly, the mortuary school was an Army school. However, several times the Army needed to use our Marines to support their operations.
It is not a job that is easy to recruit to. In fact, if I remember correctly mortuary affairs wasn’t the unit primary function, because of the difficulty in recruiting.
Mass fatalities is an area that is not well covered.
Having said all of that, just because you are parnoid does not mean that no one is following you.
For all I know, the current action is pursuant to subparagraph 6 of section D of Phase IV of the FY 2004 Emergency Response Plan, as amended in 2005, 2006, 2007, and again in 2008.
Bottom line, this strikes me as prudent planning. It will be really, really bad when terrorists finally manage to set off a nuke in an American city. The results will swamp our responses capabilities regardless of what we do now. The current actions, however, may make us somewhat less unprepared.
So when a major natural disaster happens, we will be able to handle the inevitable.
Imagine if we couldn’t. What would be all over the news - government unprepared for disaster, hundreds of bodies left to rot.
Just like they did with Katrina, only more so.
It could just be emergency preparedness, but coming so quickly after the classifieds for military internment recruits it seems much more sinister.
I agree. The last round of posts about the detention specialist was a tempest in a teapot. The same folks will try to make something out of this. It's embarrassing to FR and the conservative community to try to make something out of this.
I don’t see the job on the link provided, even after doing a search for the word “mortuary”. Was it pulled?
You should read “One Second After” by William R. Forstchen. The exact scenario he presents is not completely unlikely, but his novel deals with the aftermath of an attack that leaves the US without power for over a year.
The mortality rate in the first month is horrifying, and one of the first challenges that the residents have to deal with is disposal of the many dead. In the end the number of deaths nationwide are over 250 Million...
I see it now.
As a recent graduate from mortuary school and a Navy Vet, my daughter is very interested in pursuing this capacity as an adjunct to her present position.
That was another fake story, internment/relocation is a fundamental part of the military duties, including the US military, they run a large prison system in the United States where they need 31Cs (they used to be known as 91C) and they have interned more than 50,000 people overseas in the war zones. This MOS traditionally has a shortage of trained personal and that is why we have shortages like we did in Vietnam when we had to use MPs from other specialties to fill the shortage of trained internment MPs.
