Dear Leaders,
We appreciate your coordination of communicating the District's press release about the President's address on September 8.
We ask that you communicate with your staff on the following instructional matters as well.
If teachers choose to show the video in class as part of their curriculm at a later date, they must:
1. be able to tie the video to TEKS for their subject area;
2. notify parents in advance that the speech will be shown and provide information about follow-up assignments or activities; and
3. provide an opportunity for parents/students to "opt-out" if they do not wish to participate, along with an alternative assignment/activity and location.
Please share the information with all appropriate staff. It is important for these measures to be taken in order to ensure that our district curriculum and TEKS continue in all subject areas.
If you have any questions, please contact me or your School Leadership Director for assistance.
Thank you for your immediate attention in this matter.
“Dear leaders”.
Am I seeing something here? Or is this just the new way to address school principals/administrators?
I believe the “Leaders” are on campus and not part of the Administration.
Viewing of the Web Address of President Barack Obama on September 8, 2009
Printable View
September 4, 2009 - On September 8, 2009, the President of the United States plans to address students across the nation on the importance of education. The web address can be seen locally in Austin at 11 a.m. (CDT) on the White House website, www.whitehouse.gov/live, and broadcast live on C-Span.
The Austin School District believes such speeches by any sitting President are worthy of Americans time, attention, and consideration. Thus, teachers who believe that a viewing of the Presidents remarks are in alignment with their classroom instruction and offer age-appropriate and meaningful connections related to staying in school, learning, and enhancing opportunities for the future will allow their students to take advantage of the opportunity afforded them through this address.
The District fully embraces the diversity of Austin, and that includes philosophical and political diversity. We believe that it is not the Districts prerogative to emphasize one groups philosophy and/or values over another. Moreover, as an educational institution one that is committed to the development of good citizenship in students we feel it is our responsibility to offer young people the opportunities to listen to American presidents who have valuable messages for students.
It is AISDs expectation that viewing of this web address will vary by campus and by classroom. Parents will be advised by their campus principals to alert the school if they have a specific desire to have their child included in, or removed from, the viewing of the Presidents remarks.
“Thus, teachers who believe that a viewing of the Presidents remarks are in alignment with their classroom instruction and offer age-appropriate and meaningful connections related to staying in school, learning, and enhancing opportunities for the future will allow their students to take advantage of the opportunity afforded them through this address.”
So....its up to the teachers.
Riiiiiiiiiight.
And what does it mean..”will allow”?...Then it is a choice?
Of course, the argument is, “why not let the students see their president recommended good choices?”....Answer is, “who cares?!” the parents should have the right to opt out. Maybe play some old Ronald Reagan speeches instead..in the cafeteria.
Why can’t he just speak at night and let the parents decide if their child should watch it or not. Also, if shown at night, the parents can be the ones to discuss the speech with their children.
Why cant he just speak at night and let the parents decide if their child should watch it or not.

Because he is a Communist and communists don’t like that option. They are into total “Prime Time” control.
Obama is one evil bastard....in case you don’t understand.
Well, ya see, it's like this, per a liberal sounding vice principal I spoke with....that would be opening a can of worms....it could likely turn into a tea party or something, per she.
I. Kid. You. Not.
Thank Heavens the lady at the District Office wasn't that way ...
PRAY FOR AMERICA'S KIDS, everyone...pray HARD...!!!
That’s a very good example of how “Progressives” react to reality. They are in denial.
Thank you Brad’s Grandmma.
“Leaders” and other such terms used in this context are synonymous with Communism.
And who decides what is "valuable"? Apparently the leader of this school district is politically aligned with Obama.
It's a shame we can't see the birth certificate to find out whether the second half of your description is true. We know he's evil; that is proven every time the druggie in our White House opens his mouth. As for whether his parents were married at the time of his birth, I will have to continue wondering.
He should announce a special evening TV speech aimed at families, including especially children. He would announce that he will "encourage children to stay in school, study hard and achieve... blah, uhhh, blah, uhhh, blah, uhhh." Every network would cover it and heap praise on "The 0ne" afterwards. Parents would get to make the decision for their children.
But it's that last point - that's why the President determined a different plan.
I'm not so sure of that. Considering this seems to have gone out on Friday, and the thug in our White House is speaking on Tuesday, with the only intervening days being Saturday, Sunday, and Labor Day (days when they cannot reliably reach parents), this might be intended as a polite way of saying that no kids are allowed to watch the socialist's propaganda speech. Regardless of the intent, that is the likely effect among those who follow the directive.
Not legally they weren't. Senior was already married back in Kenya.
I guess he sees himself as the “Parent-in-Chief”.
Just doing the job us “fly-over-land parents” won’t do.
Dear leaders
Am I seeing something here?
++++++++++++++++
At least this isn’t in the body of the letter and referring to bammy.
Of course, the argument is, why not let the students see their president recommended good choices?....
+++++++++++++++++
And our argument is - it’s not just the prez talking about making good choices, but a coordinated effort with cirriculum ‘highly recommended’ from the DoE that asks how kids can ‘support Obama’ specifically.
This is just straight propoganda.
I doubt the networks want to give up prime time revenue for this pablum. Also, they would face a lot of heat for doing it. I would not doubt that Osama has had this discussion with the networks and they declined.
