There are many things public officials probably shouldn't do during a severe recession, but no one seems to have told the leaders in Florida about them. One thing, for instance, would be giving a dozen top aides hefty raises while urging a rise in property taxes, as the mayor of Miami-Dade County recently did. Or jacking up already exorbitant hurricane-insurance premiums, as Florida's government-run property insurer just did. Or sending an army of highly paid lobbyists to push for a steep hike in electricity rates, as South Florida's public utility is doing.
And you wonder why the Sunshine State is experiencing its first net emigration of people since World War II.

Crist is a RINO, Arlene Specter wanna bee, never vote for a RINO for anything.
The jerko*f “journalist” for Time blamed FL citizens for not wanting a state income tax.
The problem is a giant flood of illegals, higher taxes to pay for ENDLESS benefits for illegals, real estate speculation and state and local govt employees in unions which drive taxes up. FL is turning into MexiFornia but so is a lot of the SE.
Crist is a POS like Martinez, Graham, McCain, Snowe and Collins.
For sure it wont be California or NY. ;-)
And John Cornyn could not wait to jump in in favor of Crist.
I'd be interested to know if Texas is having similar problems. I suspect not.
Here’s the description of the picture in the article:
“A mover prepares household items belonging to a customer leaving Aventura, Fla., for San Diego”
So this one person is moving from a no-income tax state to a blue state like Mexifornia, which is on the brink of bankruptcy, decimated with an overburdened system created by illegals? Time is a lib magazine which champions high taxes so the article is suspect.
The FL panhandle needs to become part of Alabama. They have a hell of a lot more in common with Dothan than they do with Dade County.
I work with boat manufacturers. They’re being forced out by property taxes and workers comp insurance. Local governments are not simpathetic. They want non-manufacturing service industries like medical, banking, restaurants, etc.
Florida has problems. People are making less money and the cost of living is rising. Who is going to be left to work the service industries for the fat cats living on the beach?
Or SC for that matter. This state loves illegals too but not quite as bad as NC.
Marco Rubio for U.S. Senate
We call them “halfbacks”. They come to Florida from the northeast and midwest then go half way back.
The Carolinas. And Carolinians aint happy.
LOL the illegals are all over the place where I live I mean they cross the roads all the time without even bothering to look for the incoming vehicle!
FL panhandle is also known to my good 'Bama friend as "LA" or "Lower Alabama" - I joke back at him saying wrong, most of Southern Alabama used to be known as "West Florida".
But you're absolutely right...I'm a native of South Florida...the last time I had real Southerners for neighbors in that neck of the peninsula...I was in the 3rd grade (1965-66).
Sounds like just like my corner of the midlands. For some reason normal citizens have to bow down to these people since the politicians love them so much.
We have an establishment political class. People like Rubio, like Palin, like DeMint, like Coburn, to name a few, are just not acceptable. They might adhere to principles. Politician like John McCain, Richard Lugar, George Voinovich, also to name a few, can be counted on to get on board.
..welp..I'm gonna be making someone unhappy...plan on getting down to north MB in a yr or so
Welcome to the Great State of Alabama.
