Our children in Florida are threatened if they don't attend Obama's diatribe. What part of "aint [America] no more, okay? did YOU not understand? (Officer Wesley Cheeks) http://michellemalkin.com/2009/09/04/broward-county-fl-schools-no-you-cant-opt-out-of-obama-speech/

What about the 5 year old?
I used to be for showing up and opting out, but make it cost them the $35.00 as administration in many of the government schools will not assure parent’s that the obamanation will not be seen. Libtard teachers, in other words, are free to sneak it in or even give it their discretion. So NO my kids will not see it, especially after seeing who Obama is about and who he surrounds himself with. Bozo the clown may have some inspiring words for my kids about staying in school yada yada but I’ll pass thanks.
I can see your point about a five-year old. But as the father of a 10-year old, I have no problem with sending her to school with permission to push back, however respectfully.
In fact, I welcome the opportunity to continue her education in this regard. And I live in Massachusetts.
That was an odd analogy. I'd bet that the schools that won't let students read Huckleberry Finn will require them to watch Dear Leader. And I'd bet that schools that will let students read Huckelberry Finn won't require anyone to watch Dear Leader.
“What about the 5 year old?”
I had a long conversation with my 6 year old about Kings vs. Presidents last night. I was particular to explain that we may hear our government officials, but we do not need to “listen” to them - as in do what they say. I used a silly example. If a King says pull your pants down, you better do it. If a President says pull your pants down, call the police and have him arrested.
We also had a good conversation about whether Presidents are in “charge” of this country and whether they should be asking children to do anything. Parents should ask him to do something. Presidents can ask the parents to have children do something.
My school (upscale Dekalb County, GA) won’t respond to requests for information about whether they plan to use the lesson plan. We’ll call in sea-”sick” from Lake Lanier Tuesday morning, hopefully with fish in the box.
I have two grand children in my care, 9 and 10 year olds. I went to their school this morning and asked the principal what the plans were when 0bama speaks. He stated simply, "we will not be showing it in our school." I thanked him and left.
Music to my ears.
Update, Had a pleasant conversation with the principal, at my kid's HS each teacher is making the call on whether are not to show it in their classrooms.
She offered to have my kid's Social Studies teacher e-mail or call me.
Commented that she thought that there would be enough classes district wide to crash the RSS feed. (Didn't seem all that impressed with the planning and foresight involved...)

A transcript will be available on line at www.edd-gov.org starting Sunday.
Just say no!
shakes head in amazement!
My local schools has this up on the website.
Information About President Obamas Talk to Students on September 8
We have been informed that President Obama intends to conduct a webcast to students throughout the nation on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Our information is that he intends to use this time to stress the importance of education, and to encourage students to stay in school.
The District’s policy regarding the use of outside materials in the classroom requires that the materials relate directly to the course of study, and must be age and grade appropriate. As a result, the webcast will not be shown in most classrooms. If you desire your child to view the program and it is not available in your school, you and your child may view it together at a later time and date on the websites, www.whitehouse.gov/mediaresources or www.ed.gov. It will also be available on C-SPAN.
If you desire that your child not watch this program in school, please contact your school principal and inform him/her of your request.
I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.
If kids don’t participate obuma will send in the Gestapo to haul them away?
Just say “NO!!!” (borrowing a Nancy Reagan quote)
obuma has no army, no civilian force as well as equipped and as big as the military. obuma’s “army” is composed of really fat welfare mommas, purse-swinging, bed-wetting college kids and 40 IQ rappers who can’t hold a Glock right.
Send them with Fidel masks.
As has been pointed out, presidents have addressed schoolchildren before regards the whole stay in school message. Obama’s problem is that everything, EVERYTHING is used as an opportunity to indoctrinate. So in this case we have the ridiculous lesson plans all in the name of being “helpful”. Some pundit said oh Obama isn’t going to talk politics or push an agenda- I say it’s because he doesn’t have to- the teachers who follow him will take advantage of the presented “teachable moment”.
Here is the marxist headline from our local Bristol Herald
“School Leaders Encourage Students To View President Obamas Speech On Education” See the marxist manipulation. The story became a newsworthy event because of Dept of Ed admitting fault and “correcting” the lesson plan. This marxist paper then spins the news part of it as School Leaders announce encouragement for students. Bogus, school leaders would have would never had thought about the issue of “encouragement” if it wasn’t for the controversy surrounding parents not wanting Obama to speak.
