Saudi prince urges U.S. to recognize oil dependency

The United States has no alternative to oil to meet its massive energy needs and should recognize its energy interdependence with the Middle East, Saudi Arabia's Prince Turki al-Faisal wrote in an article on Friday.

U.S. President Barack Obama has been pushing to boost green energy which cuts emissions of heat-trapping gases and reduces the use of fossil fuels. In his election campaign, Obama raised some potentially disturbing issues for the Saudis, such as ending dependence on Middle Eastern oil.

In the article translated into Italian and published by Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, Turki said energy independence was an unrealistic, groundless and harmful concept which was likely to re-emerge once economic recovery pushed oil prices up.

"There is no technology on the horizon which can replace oil to satisfy colossal needs of U.S. industry, transport and armed forces. Any future scenario will be characterized by mix of renewable and non-renewable energies whether you like it or not," Turki said.

His criticism comes as the U.S. Senate is working on a wide-ranging energy and environmental bill aimed to put limits on the amount of greenhouse gases that big industries are allowed to emit.

Turki, a former Saudi intelligence chief and envoy to Washington and London, said the United States, the world's biggest energy consumer, should put aside the rhetoric of energy independence and instead recognize interdependence of energy producers and consumers.

We are not allowed to use our own sources because the greenies (see Van Jones, Babs Boxer and the Lib/RINO gang) want us poor.

They will use jets to fly around the world telling us to not use jets.

ANWR, Gulf of Mexico, Oil Sands, arctic, and on and on...we have plenty of oil resources, but a complete umwillingness to explore and extract it.

Drilling creates AMERICAN jobs, AMERICAN wealth and AMERICAN tax revenue. What’s not to love?

How about a few neutron bombs in the Kingdom?

Then we can have it for free.

Seriously, the U.S. has its OWN oil reserves, the Democrats AND Bushes kept us from exploiting, we have nuclear energy and we have COAL - some of the LARGEST deposits in the world.

In the Southwestern U.S., solar power is a possibility, and I would STRONGLY SUPPORT wind farms - all around Hyannis Port

The persecution of American oil production rivals the ban on industrial Hemp use.

Reverse of both would cure our collective problems in a New York minute.

Anyone who doesn't think so has their head in the sand and their a$$ has a date with my foot!

U.S. President Barack Obama has been pushing to boost green energy...

Which insures that we will not reduce our use of imported oil by a single drop. Not a single teaspoon.

Anyone proposing to meet our energy needs by wind and solar is a conman, in OPEC's pocket.

In his election campaign, Obama raised some potentially disturbing issues for the Saudis, such as ending dependence on Middle Eastern oil.

Earwash. The fact that his alternative to oil is wind and solar tells you he's conning you, and they know it, so its ok.

Now we could reduce our imported oil. A coal to oil plant in every coal producing state would generate several hundred thousand barrels. Open up the California coast, for another several hundred thousand. Open up the Alaskan coast and the Alaskan Arctic offshore, for several hundred thousand more. Oil shale in Colorado and Utah.

We could very easily displace from our own resources an amount equivalent to what we import from the middle east.

Which is why every one of those alternatives have been shut off by Democrats in general and O in particular. They are OPEC shills, every one of them. Environmentalism is their cover. Its how they sell energy dependence to the rubes.

Doing what you suggest actually PRESERVES our way of life..and in some cases, dramatically improves it. Doing so would not accomplish what the Obamamama wants..to install a complete totalitarian/commie regime.
