Psalms 102:25-27

“Psalm 102:25-27 (New King James Version)

25 Of old You laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the work of Your hands.

26 They will perish, but You will endure;
Yes, they will all grow old like a garment;
Like a cloak You will change them,
And they will be changed.

27 But You are the same,
And Your years will have no end.”

No worries. God is in control.

” His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
and

Isaiah 55:6-13

Seek the LORD while He may be found,
Call upon Him while He is near.

7 Let the wicked forsake his way,
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
Let him return to the LORD,
And He will have mercy on him;
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.

8 “ For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.

9 “ For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.

10 “ For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,

11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

12 “ For you shall go out with joy,
And be led out with peace;
The mountains and the hills
Shall break forth into singing before you,
And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
13
Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree,
And instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree;
And it shall be to the LORD for a name,
For an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”

"OK, will someone explain to non-scientist me if this means we are now in danger of freezing to death instead of roasting to death like Al Gore said?"

---<>---<>---<>---<>---<>---

The quick answer is YES.

Slightly longer answer is via this chart below. It turns out that the length of the sunspot cycle is more highly correlated with solar output than the number of sunspots and that is well correlated with Earth's temperature (both for reasons not yet well understood.) The coolest that Earth has been in the last thousand years was during a period of no sunspots for many tens of years.

To interpret the chart, note that the solar cycle length from 1944-1996 averaged 125months. The past cycle was much longer at 152months. If the historical relationship holds, Earth in the next 8 years or so (there is a time lag that comes into play) will drop to temperatures 1.3F lower than those of the last 20 years. Time will tell.

The graph below comes from Solar Activity and Climate by Lassen which has been ignored by the climate modelers and alarmists because they can't understand how Sol's changes could affect the Earth so strongly. Real scientists are starting to get a handle on it, though. You can get an even longer answer than mine by looking at Lassen's readable paper. If that does not satisfy you, I can point you to much more, and some very recent published papers.

Sunspots are going extinct!

It's all the Global Warming!

We didn't listen!

Bush's fault.

Well, actually, the two scientists doing this work of measuring the strength of the sunspot’s magnetic fields have been talking about this for quite a few years now. The weakness is that the data has been taken for only 17 years and very sporadically in the early years. Since that does not span the (full) 22-yr cycle of the Sun, they and everyone else are a bit reluctant to continue the straight line extrapolation that is one interpretation, and that leads to the “no spots in xxx years” thoughts. I’ve checked into their data, and I could interpret the data as describing a cosine wave just as well as a straight line right now.

By the way, this disappearance of spots being discussed in this article is not simply a Sunspot Cycle low - it is a long term disappearance... for at least a couple decades and maybe as long as hundreds of years.

There are many scientists who are finally being dragged (kicking and screaming) now into realizing that this data may well be telling us something meaningful.

Mama always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun
But mama, that's where the fun is...

SirKit got a very interesting book by Henrik Svensmark, “The Chilling Stars: A Cosmic View of Climate Change”. It covers a much larger scope than that with which most are familiar in dealing with climate change. It’s a pretty easy read, even for folks like I, who are non-science types.

Good point. Chilling Stars by Svensmark is a very good book by one of the finest scientists of our day in the field of climatology. Aria: You may wish to take a look at the book that SuziQ recommends in post#48.
