I have some liberals telling me this: Socialized health care will be fine because we have the following socialist programs in place: Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Public Parks, Public Schools, WIC, highway system and infrastructure, etc...
Is there any way to refute that. I do know that medicare was forced on America by a democrat, LBJ.
Any advice would help. Thanks
And he forgets the Post Office, the DMV and the IRS.
Every one of those programs is in a shambles. Case closed.
If they believe ANY of those programs should be looked upon as a success.... they are not smart enough to understand anyway. So, tighten the velcro straps back on their shoes and send em back out the door.
Ask him how many of those programs actually perform as well as they were intended, are fiscally solvent, and haven’t expanded well beyond the scope at which they were originally “sold” to the American public. Oh yeah he also forgot Amtrak and the IRS.
I went to Russia and looked at their medical care. No hypodermic needles. No antibiotics. Inadequate doctors. Inadequate education. High infant mortality. Death by anesthetic. To name just a few....
Medicare, Social Security, and all these other government sponsored programs are a drain on our economy. No one can argue that Social Security is not a failure. The total collapse of Social Security is a foregone conclusion.
Obammie stated in his campaign that he would NOT endorse a government based health care plan if it resulted in higher costs and higher taxes to the US taxpayer.
Well, the CBO and every other economist on the planet has shown that yes.... Obamacare will be an economic disaster. So - since this is true....
Why is Obama breaking his camping promise and forging ahead with this extremely unpopular idea?
OMG. They're all going bankrupt or falling apart. Nothing the government has done has been a success. The war on poverty has gone on for generations, and it's a huge miserable failure. We have more parasites today than ever before. Health Care Welfare will just add to the misery.
Response—all of those “programs” suck. It’s just that simple.
First of all, socialism is a system of governance where the central government owns literally everything and decides who gets what (with the elite rulers getting the most, of course).
Medicare- Really? He wants to point to a bankrupt program as a shining example of how great socialism works?
Social Security - bankrupt despite running in the black for over 70 years
Medicaid - nothing but welfare, which is not allowed by the Constitution
WIC- more welfare
Public schools - Does he REALLY want to go there? This was supposed to be a state run system until the federal government stuck its nose in it in the 1970s. And since then the education system has gotten worse and worse despite spending record amounts per child and teachers having fewer students to teach.
Public parks - again, a state and local function
Roads - one of the few things that the Constitution allows, but hardly a “socialist” function.
Why exacerbate the problem by adding more programs?
As them why would a Freedom Loving American want any of those? And why should we want that for our children?
Also ask them if they like Bumbling Bureaucrats dictating their health care choices, instead of Doctors?
A good place to start is by reading, or listening to, Milton Friedman. The following links are for two short and insightful talks on the power of a free market, and the danger of socialized medicine.

Socialism and government programs are not the same thing. highway infrastructure and little things like the common defence are not strictly “socialist”
The element of “sharing the wealth” is not present: of giving wealth from one person to another whio someone decides is more worthy than yourself.
Medicare, Medicaid even social security are washed up programs on the verge of collapse. Are your opponents sure they want to argue for healthcare based on those failures???
They love to bring them up...I feel so good when I get to smack them down with them.
I went to Russia and looked at their medical care. No hypodermic needles. No antibiotics. Inadequate doctors. Inadequate education. High infant mortality. Death by anesthetic. To name just a few....
But everyone had access to healthcare....
LOL
Tell them that those programs ended up costing taxpayers 4 to 5 times their original cost estimates. Tell them that fraud waste and abuse accounts for about 1/2 the bloated cost of the Medicare program. And since these are “permanent” programs with implied social contracts, they really can’t be effectively fixed. They are there to serve the left wing politicians who created them. If a private business were running their business in such a sloppy way, they would go out of business and stop the mammoth taxpayer waste. Badly run government programs never end nor does their drain on the suffering taxpayer.
If government continues to expand its tenticles into every aspect of our life, eventually we will become a communist society. All or most of our taxes will go to pay for government services and we will still be running annual deficits and adding to the public debt, which will never be repaid.
Ask them if you got into excessive debt by overspending on credit cards, would you ask them to raise your credit limit and borrow even more? Of course common sense says a resounding NO, but this is exactly what our government is doing right now. We are being ruled by leftist politicians who are willfully ignorant of basic economics.
Let’s see. Every one of those programs is funded by money collected by violence or the threat thereof. Liberals claim to hate violence. They should hate socialism.
Refute it? It’s a giveaway.
None of those programs work worth a tinker’s damn.
An elite class ruling and deciding what is best for everyone else. Power always corrupts. Our constitution was designed to divide and limit the power of government. Some people would like to change that.
I will resist.
