Jaycee Lee Dugard: new photos released Previously unseen photographs of Jaycee Lee Dugard have been released by her aunt.

The photographs show a smiling Jaycee as a three-year-old ballerina, dressed as punk rocker, and attending Los Angeles' Rose Parade in 1991. The images were distributed at a press conference by Tina Dugard who revealed how Jaycee taught her two daughters how to read and write in captivity using the internet.

Miss Dugard, who has spent five days with them since their release, said the girls were literate and had access to a computer and video games.

The 42-year-old, contradicted earlier reports that suggested the girls – Starlite, 15, and Angel, 11 – had been starved of information and knew little of the outside world after being brought up by their mother in the garden of her alleged abductor, Philip Garrido, in Antioch, California.

"Jaycee did a truly amazing job with the limited resources and education she had and we are so very proud of her," Miss Dugard told a press conference.

That poor girl and her poor daughters. How horrible their lives were. There is no punishment too brutal for that monster and his moster wife.

New pics, yes, but not recent photos.

It could be that if recent photos were released then her sheltered hell would turn into a media circus hell and destroy any hope for healing. That might be behind the lack of photos.

Anyone know if they have started a fund for them? She needs to be able to take it easy, learn how to grow up herself and maybe one day go to college and her daughters too.

Wonderful Idea! It takes a conservative (and a FReeper) to come up with it.

alleged abductor,

"alleged"? Couldn't they use a stronger word than that?

What an incredible story of love, goodness, strength, perseverance, and TRIUMPH over darkness, oppression, and unthinkable EVIL. Jaycee is child earth angel made of steel with golden wings.

Uh, I have to ask, if she had Internet access, could she not have emailed the authorities about her plight?

I got flamed big time for asking the same question a week ago. I will bet that Jaycee had many, many opportunities to escape over the last 18 years.

She did have many opportunities to escape. It’s been brought up in several articles.

She was abducted at 11, repeatedly raped which was no doubt brutal, painful, and damaging, and gave birth at what, 13? No pain control, no medical care. What other brutalities she experienced I do not know. She must have lived in terror. I am sure she was terrified to ask for help.

Yes, I’d ask for help, and look for any escape opportunity, but I wasn’t abducted at age 11 and tortured repeatedly.

It seems to take a certain sense of self to get your act together and escape. I don’t think most children have it.

Similarly, most molested children do not tell. That’s what pervs count on.

When houses catch fire, the firemen look for little kids under the beds or in closets. It would make more sense to get out. But little kids don’t have a lot of sense.

Very well stated. I cannot fathom what her psychological state was as a child or now as a “supposed” adult.

uh, I have to ask.

Why do people bother asking questions like this?

It’s almost like they’re suggesting something untoward about the victim, but I’m never certain exactly what it is.

BTW—I am not questioning that this girl was a victim or implying that her abduction was in any way her fault. The whole thing is a horrible tragedy. But—because she is a victim—one assumes she wants to take advantage of every opportunity to get away. Clearly she did not do that, even when it would have been simple.

She didn’t havt to flee. Sounds like she had both phone and Internet access. She could have used these to contact the authorities.

One can assume alot of things when one hasn’t been in that spot.

I used to see the exact same thing when people wrote about the mormon girl who was kidnapped - and about Sean Hornbeck.

First, the children get tortured - then they get brainwashed.

Teach a puppy to stay in the back of the pickup, and he'll be there when you get back!
