I emailed my childs Superintendent this request about 90 minutes ago:
Much is being said - for and against - Barack Obamas televised speech to be delivered nationwide to school students on September 8.
Im not seeing any information about it at the NEISD website: http://www.neisd.net/
I believe your office should make a full and complete public statement as soon as possible regarding the Districts official position on this speech. Will you show this speech to our children? Will you require parental approval if you do? Will you allow students to opt-out?
Thank you.

Message from superintendent about Presidents address
Dear NEISD Parent/Guardian,
There has been quite a bit of media attention recently over President Obamas address to school students on September 8, 2009. I am sending this message home to inform you about North East ISDs position on this.
To avoid a disruption to the school day and loss of academic time, NEISD will provide the Presidents address for families to watch at home if they so choose. The district will tape the speech and provide a link through the districts Parent Portal.
The decision to record the speech and make it available on our Web site is for logistics and convenience purposes. I realize the highly-charged political environment is in the news, but quite frankly, many students will be at lunch, P.E. and other activities outside the classroom during the original broadcast.
Regardless of political party, adults should model respect for the office of the President of the United States.
Thank you for your understanding on this matter.
Sincerely,
Richard A. Middleton
Superintendent of Schools

When we have a President that has respect for the United States, then we will respect that man or women.
This has pretty much been the lead off noon story on WOAI Radio, KSAT12 and KENS5. If I can help more, let me know.
When the Office of President gets it's own teleprompter, I will.
As for the man infesting it...that's another story.
Regardless of political party, adults should model respect for the office of the President of the United States.I would email him back telling him it's no business of his how you, as a parent, should model anything. I'd go on to say that if he and his fellow educators would stick to the 3 R's, we'd have never gotten into this situation in the first place. Further, it's statements like his that we freedom loving Americans are fed up with. WE will decide what's best for us and our children - NOT the government.
