A new report from UC Davis researchers finds that American gun shows are the leading source of guns used in crimes, not just in the United States, but Mexico and Canada as well.

I think this is the UC professor that has had a hard-on for guns and gun owners for a long time. He gets trotted out on occassion when 'guns' make the news (locally). If it's the same guy, he regularly bemoans the cost of treating all the gunshot wounded that wind-up at UC Med (local trauma center).
What he fails to mention is that the majority are gang-related shootings. I suspect very few gun cleaning accidents show up in his emergency room. The solution to his dilema would be to eliminate gangs (ain't happening- will only get worse) or teach them to be better shots so the 'wounded' go to the morgue instead.
Another possibility would be to open 'gang-related-wound' clinics along the lines of ObamaCare where the wait might be a while, but at least the care is FREE.
This coincides with John Edwards' "two Americas" concept: why should an insured taxpayer be on the hook to provide emergency room services for anyone engaged in known dangerous activities like gang membership, sky diving, driving drunk, texting, etc.? This makes no sense. Why reward these behaviors with the best medical care? Why not offer something less and let that foster in the minds of those willing to take such risks? Being an enabler is getting very expensive.

Why do they hate gun shows? Because of their incorrect perception that guns are sold there with no paperwork.
So when a gun is taken from a criminal, with no paperwork, it therefore came from a gun show? Or are they now saying paperwork led them back to a gun show?
Either way they play it, one of their main arguments gets destroyed. Idjits.

Periodically I take them for exorcise and clean and oil them and return them to their resting places. My guns have never been demonically possessed. Maybe it's your brand of ammo...

Good one. Actually I did once have an FN-FAL that I swore was possessed. No matter what brand of ammo it just kept insisting it was a single shot rifle. To this day I believe that some sort of evil spirit was put there by “assault weapons ban proponents”.

Did you change the gas adjustment on the FN-FAL?

..85% of recovered crime guns have gone through at least one private party transaction following their initial sale... - Meaningless statistic. I'll bet over 85% of ALL guns have gone through at least one re-sale. This is like saying 85% of CRIME CARS were NOT PURCHASED NEW FROM A DEALER!! So what??

Even on DU they have this idiot's number
38. Oh, it's by Garen Wintemute! Why didn't anyone say so? Then I'd have known immediately the whole thing was tendentious bullshit.

Yep, been there, done that. The problem is / was that a large number of FN-FALs were barrel chopped to make them legal under the Clinton Assault Rifle ban. This caused the gas system to no longer function properly no matter where you adjusted it to. I returned it to the dealer I bought it from. I'd love to find another one that functioned flawlessly because I love the feel of the weapon. I have plenty of bolt action .308’s, and I'm hoping to add a semi to the safe without having to take out a second mortgage.
The only positive thing about mr. hopey changey is that he's stimulated firearms and ammo sales.
