Debra Tate, sister of the slain actress who was 8 1/2 months pregnant when she died, told the parole commissioners that she would have a 40-year-old nephew if her sister had lived. She said of Atkins, “I will pray for her soul when she draws her last breath, but until then I think she should remain in this controlled situation.”

Parole commissioner Tim O’Hare said that he and the other commissioner who presided over the hearing, Jan Enloe, based their decision heavily on the “atrocious nature” of the 1969 killings and said that Atkins never fully understood the magnitude of her crimes.
Off topic here, but you reminded me of a movie I once stumbled into many years ago. It was called, ‘Beyond the Valley of the Dolls’, and it was one of the most disturbing things I ever saw.
Atkins testified before a Los Angeles Grand Jury, hoping to avoid the death penalty. She revealed how she held down Sharon Tate as she pleaded for her and the baby's life. She recounted how she told Tate, "Look, bitch, I don't care a thing about you. You're going to die and there's nothing you can do about it." To cause more suffering, they held off killing Tate until all others were dead, and then stabbed her repeatedly while she called out for her mother.
Hi PhilDragoo!
That sounds like it’s straight from Helter Skelter, which I’ve read at least three times.
Get this though. In later years, Susan changed her story, claiming that she merely held Sharon down while Tex did all the stabbing. That’s one reason the parole board denied her tonight, stating that she had yet to understand the magnitude of her crimes.
She'll soon be throwing back scotch with Ted.
Yeah, I read Bugliosi.
The decades have not revealed a microgram of compassion in my being for these perps.
Yeah, I read Bugliosi too, but I hate his politics.
By Ted, you mean Ted Bundy, right? I’ve read about him too: The Stranger Beside Me, by Ann Rule and some books by others who knew him.
I’m a bit miffed right now. I loaned “And the Sea Will Tell” by Bugliosi, to a friend and now the ex-friend can’t find my book. Never again.
Regarding Bugliosi, I have read thousands of words of review of his thousand-plus-page book on the JFK assassination.
He is as determined to prove the Warren Commission right as was Gerald Posner.
He is a prize ass.
