Conservatives Urge 'National Truancy Day' For Obama's Back-to-School Speech
Sept. 2, 2009

President Obama on Tuesday will deliver an address to American school children urging them to stay in school and study hard, but to some conservatives, the whole thing smacks of an attempt to indoctrinate kids to a socialist agenda.
The uproar -- fueled in part by conservative commentators such as blogger Michelle Malkin and radio host Dana Loesch -- has been so effective that some schools in Texas are making the viewing optional, according to the Christian Science Monitor. Others in Columbia, Missouri are ignoring the address altogether.
The speech will be streamed live on the White House Website at 12 noon Eastern time.
"Schools have used students as little lobbyists on everything from illegal immigration to gay marriage to anti-war activism, and most recently, Census collection," Malkin writes. "Will Obama be able to resist issuing a call to youth arms to marshal help in passing his legislative agenda?"
Loesch went a step further this week, urging parents to keep their kids at home on Sept. 8, which she is calling a "National Truancy Day."
"Take a day of vacation," she wrote on her blog. "Go to the zoo. Anything that would save your offspring from what I will bluntly say is just the quasi-fellating of the executive branch."
Also in a huff is Florida GOP chair Jim Greer.
"While I support educating our children to respect both the office of the American President and the value of community service, I do not support using our children as tools to spread liberal propaganda," he wrote in a letter, according to the Huffington Post.
A White House official told Fox News that Obama's speech to students has nothing to do with policy.
"The goal of the speech and the lesson plans is to challenge students to work hard in school, to not drop out and to meet short-term goals like behaving in class, doing their homework and goals that parents and teachers alike can agree are noble," he said. "This isn't a policy speech. This is a speech designed to encourage kids to stay in school."

Ok,
What if this is a ploy or Red Herring to make conservatives act like Chicken Little.
I’d like to see the address in super slow motion. They will probably flash subliminal messages.
If I had kids I would take them on a civics field trip that day since its the same day the Tea Party express will be in town.
To make it fair, could we have Palin do a rebuttal?
This speech would probably actually be beneficial in inner city schools, where students are mostly black, all thrilled that the US has its first black President, and have no clue whatsoever as to his policy agenda (nor would they have a clue after the speech, even if he tried to spell it out). If they watch/listen, and even just a few take to heart simple advice like “behave yourselves in the classroom”, “do your homework”, and “stay in school”, it would be a good thing. However, for any schools where real education is going on already, it’s inappropriate and a waste of time.
Obama could have short-circuited most of this by simply releasing the text of the speech.
You can only imagine what the liberals would have said if Bush had tried the same thing.

It is stuff like this that makes me glad I don’t have kids. I am glad that there are good sensible people who are though.
Yeah, like BO’s ‘present’ votes. He just showed up as an ill prepared fence sitter so no one would get to know the ‘real’ zero.
Huge problem with the title and liberal morphing of the language:
truancy n. , pl. -cies . The act or condition of being absent without permission.
All of these kids will have permission.
September 8 is National Keep Your Kids Home Day.
“What if this is a ploy or Red Herring to make conservatives act like Chicken Little.”
A reasonable question I guess. Or maby they just want to twist a little tail and watch the rant. Any way you want to froth, I think the President probably has been a kid, some where, and has kids. I think American kids dont need to fret the Fed, thats for us. Lets lighten up just a little This is Kids stuff.
Rab
It’s worse than a waste of time. It’s a bald attempt to create a cult of personality around Holy O.
Obama and the NEA can go straight to hell. Leave my kids alone.
A few minutes ago he told me he and his friends are thinking of going to school that day but holding a protest outside the school during the speech complete with signs and everything. It could be interesting . . .
