President Obama will address a joint session of Congress on Sept 9.
This comes as the White House has been signaling publicly that they are ready to take charge of the health care debate.
So, this settles the 5th of the 5 health care strategy questions I laid out earlier on this blog today. The other 4 remain.

Do Republicans have to show up? If not, they should stage their own town hall with the American people, and put forth their plan, which involves tort reform and real competition for insurance companies involving allowing consumers to purchase it across state lines. No mandates, no public option - just a simple 2-3 page bill for now.

Perfect.

We must remain very vigilant and engaged, until this very result happens. And then after that. This is a long term commitment.

I hope chaos erupts during the address. Wishful thinking is always fun.

Except for him of course. He can have anything.

Jerk,
Yes I am retired. But even if I weren't, I would still be engaged. You failed to answer my question. What are you doing to fight this tyranny? Or is just posting whinning comments about surrender on FR your contribution?

It’s one thing to have charisma, and maybe some likeability, but he has lost both, he is now just another doggone lying politician who wants to grab the power for himself.

The Republicans just shouldn’t show up. They should meet at Union Station then go to Walter Reed and have good face time with our American Heroes. NO CAMERAS!

The last time he did this, right before the recess, his perfomance was less than lame.
One would assume he will be better prepared this time around. He’s got to find a way to repackage all that has gone before in such a way that people do not feel threatened by cost (higher taxes) and loss of fundamental freedoms (doctor choice, responsive health care etc.).
Ultimately, it will come down to whether or not people believe him. IMHO that time is past. Onadacare is dead in the water at this point. No matter what he says, those people who must vote on it, and are up for reelection, have gotten their constituents message—no to Onadacare. They’re need for feeding off the taxpayer will trump Onadacare.
Of course, Onada could try to force on us by presidential fiat. But, in the end, it is Congress that controls the purse to pay for it. It won’t if the representatives and senators want to stay in office.

Have no knowledge of any plans on either side for the 9th. My expectation for an Obamanist attempt to intimidate via show of aroused numbers is simply based upon knowledge of Marxist and the like (Nazis & other Radical Socialists) Totalitarian tactics that worked for them in Russia, Germany, Cuba, etc..
Considering the people around Obama in his developmental years, whether or not he moves in that direction, next week, will depend upon their assessment of their current ability to make such tactics work.
Admittedly, this is all based on an educated guess.

All 50 states are coordinating in this-as we fight back against our own Right-Wing Domestic Terrorists who are subverting the American Democratic Process, whipped to a frenzy by their Fox Propaganda Network ceaselessly re-seizing power for their treacherous leaders. You're serious? This exact quote actually came out of the frakking white house???

The news at the top of the hour said he is going to lay out what is in the House bill. If he tells the truth, it’ll put a nail in the bill.
