I would say just because Europeans were completely dominant with the industrial revolution fuelling undefeatable armies.
And they didn’t have access to the asymmetrical methods that they do now.

To some degree suicide bombing is an industry based on technology. I think the Islamo terrorists have taken over a good portion of the Muslim mind (it’s kind of debatable how much), and it’s also a reaction to the encroachment of the Western mind into Islam - which could previously just sort of exist on its own.
Now all worlds are colliding, so to speak. Technology is a big part of that.
