125 years ago Islam was, sort of, dormant. Why? For one thing, people didn’t take the jihad idea to mean killing all infidels - or at least they didn’t take the more outrageous teachings and ‘implement’ them like we’re seeing now. They were moderated by reality (’the rain falls on the righteous and the unrighteous’ - common grace) and perhaps humanity.

I think many Muslims now are in bunker mode - ‘believe or die!’ the ‘faithful’ howl. The moderates have given up on whatever cause those moderate Muslims of the past century, they may have had.

We could really stand to see a return to ‘moderate’ or ‘cultural’ Islam.

Radical Christianity can often imply very positive behavioral changes - getting radically saved implies leaving the old life of sin completely and pursuing holiness of God - the piety of the old Christian saints - with passion.

Radical Islam almost never implies such positive behaviors. You don’t hear about the radical salvation of a Muslim who then dedicates his life to the poor. No, but you do hear about how he killed 123 people in the name of Islam. That’s supposed to be highly pious for a Muslim.

It’s quite a sick and twisted version of piety and salvation.
