The deposed president of Honduras said Tuesday that he received assurances from the permanent council of the Organization of American States that they will not recognize his country's upcoming elections.
Ousted President Manuel Zelaya's news conference came as campaigning began for the Nov. 29 elections, which were scheduled when Zelaya was still in power. Interim leaders have expressed hope that international interest in restoring Zelaya will fade after the elections.
Zelaya said the election would be viewed as a fraud by the international community.
"The countries have expressed today that they are willing to accept neither the electoral process nor the result of the elections nor who wins under an illegitimate de facto government," Zelaya said, referring to the assurances he received from the members of the OAS permanent council.
Soldiers flew Zelaya into exile at gunpoint on June 28. No amount of international pressure has persuaded the interim government to restore Zelaya to power, including the suspension of millions of dollars in U.S. military and development aid.
OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza said the members remained unanimous in backing Zelaya.
"All members of the Council, either with their own voice or through the coordinators of the regional groups, showed their continuous and full support to President Zelaya as the President of Honduras," he said.

But seriously - the Honduran president was violating their constitution - isn’t that what soldiers here are sworn to protect? I respect the Honduran military for their actions to protect their constitution. I just wish our own military would step up to the plate and do their duty.

Yes, I agree. Incidentally, the reason Communism gained ascendancy in China, and that Communist China became so dominant so fast, was directly thanks to traitors high up in the US State Dept offices in (or dealing with) China under FDR and Truman. So the Taiwan analogy is even more apt.
I don’t think Obama has done any one that is quite enough to invoke Constitutional reasons for removing him yet (although I don’t think he meets the Constitutional qualifications to begin with, and I wish we could get an examination of that issue). But it wasn’t just the military that removed Zelaya: it was the country’s Supreme Court and legislature. So far the Honduran military has been very good at standing firm, though.
Chavez has been trying to corrupt the military. Also, before he was removed, Zelaya was trying to do a preemptive strike and remove members of the Supreme Court and even high-ranking military; fortunately, he didn’t get away with much at that point. Obama is probably watching carefully, though, and trying to learn from Zelaya’s failure.
