With the Tea Party Express being locally organized and making many stops all over the country, it occurred to me that newcomers to FR would be well advised to list their locale so that they can be informed of upcoming local events, issues, and elections, and news of their elected representatives activities and positions.
Local activities and communication will likely be more important than ever in this upcoming session of Congress and the 2010 elections.
So if you haven't already done so, I encourage all to go to your profile and add your location.

Wish Reagan had said it....
OK, shameless bump for my thread, but I think it is important.
I noted 37,080 were signed up with locales, yet I have read posts that indicate there are many more FR members...
Why wouldn’t someone what to list their locale? Thots?
Tip wasn’t the worst Dem. Not as left as Uncle Te.
Agreed, he is a more traditional type of Lib (as opposed to the radical czars types we have today).
Still tho, would have preferred to quote Reagan ;)
No, wasn’t it O’Neill who told Mondale to run Ferraro for V.P. Mondale didn’t know her, did he?
Sorry, I’m not sure i understand what you mean. Are you saying Tip was a facist radical czar type because he suggested that Mondale run with Ferraro?
Tip is dead, so is that saying for many..not all local anymore.
Ad then the carpetbaggers decided the People’s voice didn’t matter any more.
The sad thing is that many of the People agreed, for years.
Yeah, politics has changed. The interesting thing is that so many of these radicals get involved in local politics—apolitical type positions on boards and then launch their political careers only to reveal true radicalism or liberalism to point of being communist.
Well, Tip is the one who said it, and I tend to think it more true than ever
—might even argue that it would be in my local interest to get involved in Nancy Pelosi’s re-election campaign (support her opponent) as she certainly is affecting my life.
But as I said below, so many of these folks do one thing locally, or start innocently locally and then go to Washington and pull a “Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde.”
My point is just to encourage new FReepers to join their local so they can network. Who knows how long the Internet will be free....:(
Oh, interesting, never heard that.
In googling it, it has been re-defined to mean
1. Successful politicians do take care of their consituents care about their local issues, and value their input.
2. Citizens need to pay attention to what is going on locally.
#2 was my point—not to talk about Tip (tho I had to attribute quote), but to point out that folks need to be networking locally and the FR Locale is an excellent launch point for that.
They get elected because too many voters don’t do any research on candidates before they vote.
They vote for someone because that someone is:
Handsome
pretty
sexy
a good orater(even if they orate nothing)
has a magnetic personality
etc.
I don't mean any of this to be an insult to your opinion.. Maybe I have just been around decades longer :O(
I am not insulted. Again, my point was not to discuss Tip, it was to encourage Freepers like yourself to register locale. Sorry if i misapplied the term in your opinion. That was not my intent.
I was aware that chris mathews was a staffer for Tip. I have been watching politics since the 80s—maybe not long enough.
However, I would submit that Mathews has changed and become rabidly liberal laying personal attacks. he did not used to do that—prior to Fox, Hardball was actually a fairly balanced show. He even subbed for Limbaugh several times. IMHO, Chris has changed and times have changed since Tip was alive and serving.
