Oof: 57% now oppose war in Afghanistan
Hot AirPundit ^ | SEPTEMBER 1, 2009 | ALLAHPUNDIT

Two weeks ago, 51 percent said the war wasn’t worth fighting. Now this. I’m not worried yet — the left won’t upset our savior by pounding the table and Obama won’t lightly betray his core campaign promise on foreign policy — but if ObamaCare ends up watered down and Afghanistan still looks bad next year, he’ll need to throw them a bone. And with the polling already this bad, he’ll have all the political cover he needs.

Like Politico says, if and when he does pull out, except it to be framed as a cost-cutting measure. Because he’s all about trimming those deficits, you see.

Fifty-seven percent of Americans questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday say they oppose the U.S. war in Afghanistan, with 42 percent supporting the military mission. The percentage of those in opposition to the war is up 11 points since April, and is the highest ever in CNN polling since the launch of the U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan soon after the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001…

“Fifty-seven percent of independents and nearly three-quarters of Democrats oppose the war. Seven in 10 Republicans support what the U.S. is doing in Afghanistan,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “Democrats mildly opposed the war in April while independents and Republicans favored it. But opposition has grown 18 points among Democrats and 10 points among independents.”

Anyone seen Cindy Sheehan camped out at Martha’s Vineyard? Anyone? Perhaps Code Pinko et.al. rented her a “Peace House” on the beach? No...?

Afghanistan aka Vietnam II.

The Dems can't learn from their mistakes. They are about to cause another debacle that will produce millions of Afghani "Boat People" and plunge Pakistan innto a civil war where genocide will be a walk in the park compared to the atriocities about to happen. With luck, Idia may not get sucked into it.

As we predicted in the spring of 2008, right here on FR, Obama will cause millions of deaths and thousands of dead US servicemen and women.

So much for a kinder gentler way to wage war.

It's the rank and file Democrat's unquenchible thirst for genocide.

They are definitely a sorry bunch.

I don’t trust our soldiers lives in the hands of a communist who hates them. I think we should move it off land and into the air like George Will suggested. Obama and his media could care less if American soldiers die.

Obama would love to see us lose a war with heavy causalities and defeated morale to his Muslim brothern. The Left really did all they could to help the communists what in Viet Nam, too. Obama would have no problem doing it again and blaming it on President Bush.

Actually, at the time we went in I thought nation building was stupid in the case of this hard line Muslim country.

I proposed just entirely divesting the country of four prohibited substances and pulling out immediately. I think that would have sent a useful message to the middle east.

Mr. Obama, what is your exit strategy for Afghanistan?

Code Punk, why are you not calling for OB's impeachment?

Peace demonstrators in major cities, where are you?

I cannot and will not support 0BAMA’S WAR.
He is fundamentally weak on national defense. He needs to just stop pretending he isn’t.
Then we can all say what we already know to be true.

The Obamunist in Chief isn't exactly cheerleading for victory there. He never mentions it. Or am I mistaken?

Does he ever speak about it in a successful outcome way?

I won't hold my breath. Our troop deserve far better then this poser.

No blood for opium, the currency of community organizers.

I, too, do not want to see America’s best die for a policy that does not benefit this country.

No more nation building with Muslims. The thinking that some form of “moderate” Islam is coming to the rescue is just a fantasy. It is time to end all Muslim immigration, before we are in the same boat as the UK.

Support for the war in Afghanistan is declining because Obama has not gone to the American public and made the case for it. Obama may well lack the strength of character, understanding, and gravitas to be a war President.

The key point of the Afghan war is little recognized: keeping Pakistan out of the clutches of Islamic terrorists. Without the US war effort, Afghanistan would provide a secure base of support for terrorism and subversion against Pakistan, the world’s most fragile nuclear power.

As it is, because of our commitment in Afghanistan, Pakistan curbed A. Q. Khan’s nuclear proliferation and is firming up against terrorism. These are signal benefits for America and the world.
