President Barack Obama plans to observe the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks with a visit to the Pentagon ...
... White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters Tuesday. But Obama has no plans to visit New York City on the eighth year since the World Trade Center was destroyed.
"I believe he will go to the Pentagon that day, and go to the memorial there and speak after that," Gibbs said in his morning gaggle. "But we have not announced more details than that."
Asked after the gaggle if the president has any plans to visit New York City for the occasion, a White House official told POLITICO he does not and that is unlikely to change.
President George W. Bush marked the 9/11 anniversary with visits to lower Manhattan in 2002 and 2006. Last year, Obama and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), then Obama's rival for the presidency, both attended a memorial ceremony at the World Trade Center site as Bush dedicated a memorial at the Pentagon.
Obama could handle an election year but he’s too grief stricken to do it again.
He doesn’t want to offend muslims. It makes him too sad to contemplate.
Happy now America?
But he is honoring Ramadan...
Yes, he could.
Obama... a slap in the face of the survivors Spitting on the grave of the 9/11 victims...
Democrats Corrupting September 11th Anniversary with Political Agenda
Similar to the classless act at the Kennedy funeral which had a prayer to the Lord for government run health care!
Obama has declared that September 11th from now on shall be known as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Not a bad idea if you are honoring the firemen, police officers and the passengers on Flight 93 who gave their lives trying to save Americans.
But
. like the Kennedy funeral which couldnt help but use a religious moment to support a partisan political agenda, Obamas idea of service and remembrance is a bit different from that of ordinary Americans.
This editorial in the New York Daily News puts it well:
The Obama administration supports creating clean energy jobs in cities through a campaign called Green the Block, started by the groups Green For All and the Hip Hop Caucus. After cabinet officials met with leaders of the organizations in the West Wing, aides posted a video and a statement on the White House blog.
Van Jones, an Obama environmental adviser, said 9/11 would be an opportunity to connect, to find other people in your peer group who are also passionate about repowering America but also greening up America and cleaning up America.
And the Rev. Lennox Yearwood, head of the Hip Hop Caucus said:
The first milestone for Green the Block will be on our National Day of Service, Sept. 11, 2009, where we will organize Green the Block service events around the country in coordination with the Presidents initiative, United We Serve.
No. Wrong. Entirely wrong.
9/11 is not about green jobs or health care or bank bailouts or about the ideologies and egos of celebrities who are planning concerts and other performances this year. To them, hands off.
And remembrance must not, must never, be forgotten.
It would be sacrilege to smother 3,000 murders under gauzy and fleeting good feelings.
It would be a gross betrayal to gloss the evil that targeted and still targets America.
This is just another in a sad and lengthening list of how Obama and his lib cronies are corrupting American values for partisan political purposes.
He is afraid. Rightfully.
Too many tall buildings and no security possible there.
Have you ever been to Commerce street in downtown Dallas, like that?
Great point, the empty hole is an embarrassment he does not need to be associated with.
As a person- NObama— born a Muslim, this does not surprise me.
In other news, New Yorkers continue to debate whether Barack Obama truly is the messiah, or if Hillary would have indeed have been a better choice. All will agree that Barry O is better than that “dumb hick Sarah Palin” even though said person making the comment is a fifth-year transplant from Nebraska who thinks she is a “New Yorker.”
Indeed he is!
When he was a Mack Daddy wannabe..
I’m glad the Liberal Messiah won’t be at Ground Zero. He belongs there as much as Osama bin Laden. He would have made the event all about Himself.
There was a plane that hit the Pentagon too. It wasn’t just New York.
I lost a LtCol friend that day. He was in the USAF and stationed in the Pentagon.
There is much about Pres Obama I do not like, but his deciding to honor the day at the Pentagon is something I find okay.
How can the American voters elect such a POS that hates America and it values so much?
He may be POTUS to some people, but count me as one who tells you that he is not my POTUS only a squatter who is soiling the Whitehouse.
Pennsylvania was affected too. I guess he can’t be bothered.
No- he went and was a big letdown.
Entirely too many folks, particularly on this forum, seem to forget that fact.
I don’t think many on FR will forget, hit the Memorial Wall, BKO was on the that plane.
Barry should go to all three sites, JMHO. Hey he can take his wife to dinner in NYC, he can go back.

Not likely I will - we couldn’t get out of DC, so I went to Mass at the cathedral. The communion hymn was “I am the Bread of Life” and the cantor broke down in the middle. I came back to find we had lost one of our people on that plane, and I saw the building in flames when we finally did get out of town. That day, if somebody’d handed me a terrorist, I would have torn his head off and washed my hands in his blood.
