Honduran Zelaya post coup return unlikely: Chavez

CARACAS (Reuters) - Toppled Honduran President Manuel Zelaya is unlikely to return to office, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Monday after weeks of tough diplomacy to reinstall his close leftist ally.

Soldiers dragged Zelaya out of Honduras at gunpoint in June, months before the end of his term, and the defacto government has ignored international condemnation and is preparing for elections in November.

"Regardless of whether Zelaya returns or not, and really, at this point, that's hard to imagine, Honduras will keep up the fight," Chavez said in a phone call to Venezuelan television from Libya.

Despite condemnation from the United States and most world governments, Honduras' interim government, led by Roberto Micheletti, has refused to allow the return of Zelaya, who it says was too close to the socialist Chavez.

I hope this means that Obama has told Chavez he just can’t handle one more Marxist project right now. Chavez won’t (can’t) do it if he doesn’t think he’ll get US support. For one thing, there is still that tricky mutual defense agreement we have with Honduras, so unless Obama plans to abrogate that treaty overnight, he can’t just open the door and let Chavez (or his proxy, Nicaragua) invade Honduras.

I think Bambi is too busy with his attempts to install fascism in the US right now to really focus on this. If Honduras can make it to their elections in November, it will be a great victory for democracy. However, my fear is that Obama and Chavez are doing everything they can behind the scenes to control the election results. In addition, it is quite possible that Chavez’ infiltrators will stir up some kind of trouble in Honduras as the election date approaches.

From Libya? That is just lovely...any bets on him meeting with the terrorist who was just freed from Scotland?

No journalistic bias here! Nope, none at all!

Looking at the quote you cited, it’s true and accurate. Do you think that truth and accuracy are biased?
