Two men arrested Friday night during a bizarre shooting spree along Interstate 5 in North Seattle may have been planning to fire at vehicles driving up and down the freeway, police said Sunday. One theory is that maybe they were going to snipe at people as they were driving by on I-5, Seattle Police Department spokeswoman Renee Witt told KOMO News

SNIPPET: “SEATTLE - Two men arrested Friday night during a bizarre shooting spree along Interstate 5 in North Seattle may have been planning to fire at vehicles driving up and down the freeway, police said Sunday.”
SNIPPET: “She said the positioning of the camp also lends credence to the idea that the suspects planned a sniper attack on the freeway.
But she cautioned that it is just a theory at this point. “We don’t know,” she said. “One good thing is they’re both in custody,” she added.
Both suspects are being held in the King County Jail following the Friday night shooting spree only yards from Interstate 5 near North Seattle Community College.
One of the suspects was found with an AK-47 assault rifle and multiple rounds of ammunition, police said. He was identified as 31-year-old Richard F. Blake.”
I read somewhere earlier that the shooter was still in jail but his partner was let free because there was not enough evidence to hold him.
Thanks Bobby.
I haven’t read that online yet.
If you get a link, go ahead and post it; otherwise I’ll watch out for that.
AK47 style rifles are notoriously inaccurate. I doubt anyone could hit a moving car at 100 yds. This was probable a couple of armed homeless guys.
For those that don't know, real AK47's are capable of full auto fire and are very hard to come by. The AK style SEMI auto is very common and no they are not easily converted.
If someone wanted to "snipe", a better tool can be found at Wally World, called a deer rifle.
RAMBO wannbe's?
Held for investigation of weapons violations was Richard Blake. According to court documents, he was convicted of armed robbery in 2003. He is also reportedly a former student at the community college who had set up a campsite nearby before being asked to leave.
Court documents say Blake told police questioning him about the gunfire, "It doesn't matter because I am going to be railroaded anyway." Police say he also told them, "If I had wanted to shoot officers, you would have had some dead cops."
A police report says items found in a search of a wooded campsite near the college included an AK-47-style rifle, ammunition and a "Samurai-type sword."
Ping!
Kinda scary. The charter buses that take Navy personnel, including my daughter, from the Everett base to Bremerton drive I-5 every day.
Ain't that just like The Man, though? There you are, mindin' your own sweet business, just squeezin' out the occasional eight or ten tracer rounds on some dopey ol' interstate... and: BAMM!!! Pigs come right smack-dab down on ya, every blamed time!
