We got some sarcastic comments while in Maui, no threats or anything. Only once on the Road to Hanna while taking videos of a waterfall.
Have the Navy move back to San Diego. Maybe they’ll like the Chinese as masters.

I believe the term was “Howlie” back in Steve McGarrett’s day...
We lived there for a few years. Racism is horrid. The locals want the haoles there to work and pump money in to the socialist structure while they go surfing and collect the spoils of the haoles’ labor. It’s pretty bad; we left because of it.
Nice place to visit, though.
They ought to check out Subic Bay/Olangapo PI and Roosevelt Roads before they decide to throw the Haoles etal out....
When I ‘visited’ TH in the late 50’s it was pretty much Hotel Street for us young eager sailors on the first stop away from the world....A foreign country..WOW... The only ‘natives’ we had real problems with were the HASP as fine a bunch of club wielders one may venture to see.
BUT THEN AGAIN, there really isn’t any such thing as a bad liberty for a sailor....
They can keep their tourism cash. It’s the complete elimination of all the Federal bennies that will have them howling if they undo their statehood.
They’ll probably apply to keep them as “reparations”.
