Et Tu, Lefty? Allies Critical Of President
Washington Post ^ | August 31, 2009 | Howard Kurtz

Posted on 08/31/2009 8:25:49 AM PDT by La Lydia

...the criticism of Barack Obama has turned strikingly personal as some of his liberal media allies have gone wobbly on him. After playing a cheerleading role during the campaign, some are bluntly questioning whether he's up to the job. If Obama is losing Paul Krugman, can the rest of the left be far behind?

"I'm concerned as to whether, in trying to reach out to the middle, he is selling out his base," says Chicago Tribune columnist Clarence Page. "I find myself saying, 'Where's that well-oiled Obama machine we saw last year?' . . . Maybe he's being a little too cool at this point."

David Corn, a blogger for Politics Daily, says that despite a reservoir of support for the president, some of his policies "have caused concern, if not outright anger, among certain liberal commentators and bloggers. It's been a more conventional White House than many people expected or desired. . . . He's made compromises that have some people concerned about his adherence to principle."

Perhaps that's why a recent Frank Rich column in the New York Times was headlined, "Is Obama Punking Us?"...the sense of letdown is palpable. Krugman wrote recently that "Mr. Obama was never going to get everything his supporters wanted. But there's a point at which realism shades over into weakness, and progressives increasingly feel that the administration is on the wrong side of that line."...

Arianna Huffington has lamented Obama's "lack of leadership,"... It was liberal commentators, of course, who formed the leading edge of the most favorable coverage that any White House contender has drawn in a generation. Having swooned as they did, some were probably more susceptible to having their hearts broken....

This could be a ploy to make BHO look centrist.

The portion of the people who haven’t stopped believing him, think he is insufficiently lefty.

Poor David...betrayed by someone not “left” enough to suit his taste...if this doesn’t qualify him a free copy of the complete works of Marx from the party, I don’t know what will...

Although it’s a bit too late for these dumbasses to have second thoughts about Obummer, it does give one hope that there are democrats out there who are beginning to question whether Obummer was even qualified to be president to begin with, not to mention his ability to do the job, handle it and be the president for all the people in the country, not just a handful. Even though Bush was soundly criticized from all directions, he still ruled the country as a president of all the people, democrats included and did what he thought was right to keep all the people in the country safe, including democrats. At least buyer’s remorse is beginning now and may start to pick up a great deal of steam in the months ahead which would not be surprising.

There are always people, on our side as well, who are never satisfied with anything less than 100% ideological purity.

As someone who has been around the block a few times, I can attest that no politician is perfect and politics by its very nature is a messy business. RR once said it was the world’s second oldest profession.

I personally will settle any day for a glass half full than an empty glass.

The only utopia and perfection you will ever encounter is God’s Kingdom. You will never find it in a political movement of any stripe here on earth.

No. And I will tell you why I think

Obama is their last hope and best chance to get their lefty agenda passed. He is having the Carter problem. Carter, along with a 60 seat Senate, was seen by the left as a great chance to continue the Great Society. However, Americans rejected expansion of the welfare state plus the excessive liberalism of the 1960’s and 1970’s. The most important thing for any president is to get re-elected. However, the left and the leftists in congress don't care about the president, they care more about their agenda. Anyways, Carter had a problem with the more conservative democrats in congress and the more liberal members as he was trying to appease both.

These types of articles that you're seeing today are similar to alot written by the liberal press in 1970’s. I know. I seen them then as I am seeing them now.

re: in trying to reach out to the middle

Ah yes, the good old “middle” again. Seems neither the Left or Right has learned it’s not good business to chase after those people. Stake your claim, Left or Right, make what you stand for and would strive to accomplish clear and then wait for them to come to you. The ‘middle’ has learned to play the waiting game, and in so doing have way more political clout than they should. Don’t give them a middle ground. Stand fast on conservative principles, make it clear why America became the greatest nation in world history and how we’ve turned our back on those principles and what it’s cost us.

Then wait them out. The Left will never be able to run anything. We’re seeing that right now, and how. It takes the Right to make things work. And going out there on that shaky middle ground to try and lure those people in just doesn’t work.

That well-oiled Obama machine appealed to the middle. After the election he took off his mask and the middle found an extreme leftist.

Understand Clarence?

Yep Ol' W with his $160 billion deficit. So now how do you like the guy you replaced him with?

You know, your hero, The 0? The guy who has, in one year, created a deficit larger then all of W's deficits combined?

I regularly read Eugene Robinson’s columns which appear in the column left section of Investor’s Business Daily. He loves and worships BHO in every respect.

You are so correct. This is a ploy like everything else for those sycophants for ObRahma. The ObRahma team has done absolutely nothing that could be construed as centrist. They have been utterly and flagrantly leftist in all of their agenda.
Krugman, Kurtz, Huffington and company would lie and spread any disinformation for their guys. You have to wonder if it is completely ideological for these “journalists” or if they have been blackmailed and compromised so that they are always looking over their shoulders wondering when team ObRahma is going to shoot them in the kneecaps.
