29% Confident That Congress Knows What It’s Doing on Economy (67% are not)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | August 31, 2009

Two-out-of-three American voters (67%) lack confidence that Congress knows what it’s doing when it comes to the economy.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that just 29% are at least somewhat confident in the economic wisdom of the legislature. Those figures include seven percent (7%) who are Very Confident that Congress knows what it’s doing and 38% who are Not at All Confident.

Last fall, as the financial industry meltdown burst upon the scene and Congress was asked to approve a $700 billion bailout of the financial sector, two percent (2%) were Very Confident in Congress' handling of the economy and 32% Not at All Confident.

...

Sixty-one percent (61%) of political liberals are confident that Congress knows what it’s doing. Eighty-nine percent (89%) of conservatives are not. As for moderates, 32% are confident, and 61% are not.

Just 25% of all voters believe that members of Congress understand legislation before they vote on it. Most voters (54%) think they do not. Last fall, 47% thought Congress failed to understand legislation before voting.

Republicans and unaffiliated voters overwhelmingly reject the idea that members of Congress understand legislation before voting on it. Democrats are evenly divided.

Other recent polling found that just 22% believe Congress has a good understanding of the health care reform legislation currently being considered. Voters tend to think that they understand the legislation better than Congress and about as well as President Obama.

In early February, 58% said most members of Congress will not understand what is in the economic stimulus plan before they vote on it.

Democrats are interested in "redistribution", not economic growth.

I bet half are socialists who dont gove a crap if there are any jobs, the other half are clueless socialists that believe Obama that it will take 8 years and 50 T$ to fix the republican economy (libs actually tell me this here in MD) .

I am not an economist. I really have learned much of what I know about the economy in the last 5 years.

I would bet huge money that I know more than most members of Congress. They are primarly a group of politicians, and secondarily, many are lawyers. Not much time for economics education, formal or otherwise.

Yep, they know exactly what they are doing, turning America into a Marxist state ... If we let them.

Yeah my thoughts exactly - it’s a poorly-worded, loaded question.

Congress knows exactly what it is doing to the country.

Technically, the liberals who say that Congress does know what they’re doing are correct.

These are good numbers. BUT... if the American Idiocracy reelects these bastards in 2010, then start moving your wealth off shore fast. Americans hate the policies but keep sending them back for more...

Actually, I am quite confident that the Rats know exactly what they are doing; driving the US into the ground so they can shove socialism down our throats.

“29% are at least somewhat confident in the economic wisdom of the legislature”

So, 29 percent think tripling yearly deficit spending is just fine and dandy.

I would guess the majority of this 29% don't pay taxes and could not care less. Keep the freebies coming!

When milk is $15/gallon and bread is $10.00/loaf maybe then they will figure it out.

That also means that 29% of the people do not know what they are doing.

Wonder how many of these geniuses have an under-performing mortgage? Math obviously isn't strong suit.

What we need is a line item veto for the Presidency. Oh, and a new President.
